    • There are many reasons to be anti-Trump that have nothing to do with which direction you lean.

No wonder people have no desire to have an actual discussion with you. You're incapable of it.

            • Yep, and I can only pray that their next presidential candidate isn't an 8 year old. I would like to vote for one more some day. But I won't just vote for that person just because they're a Republican.

              • The Republican party is a populist party. It has been so since 1968. You are a silly liberal.

                  • It's not just my opinion. Even liberals understand that the Republican party has had a populist base since 1968 because of the liberals.

                    • I can find other that think otherwise, it's still just an opinion. I'll agree that it is now, but it wasn't back then and it hopefully will not be in the future because I don't think it can survive as such. But we'll have to wait to see if I'm right on that account.

Populism is a political approach that seeks to disrupt the existing social order by solidifying and mobilizing the animosity of the "commoner" or "the people" against "privileged elites" and the "establishment". Wikipedia
Today's GOP is the party of the privileged, not of the common people, serving the rich and the large corporations. What we have today under Trump is Authoritarian Populism, as championed by Bannon and his ilk. It's really authoritarian nationalism, which is a form of fascism.

While they do utilize the "us vs them" approach of traditional populism, today's New GOP has expanded "them" to demonize basically all non-straights, non-whites, non-Christians, the press, and anyone left of Goldwater. They reject unity and the common good of all citizens, promoting division and confrontation in their pursuit of power.

You must be so proud to be a part of it.

Both sides utilize "us vs them." That's not authoritarian. Plus, populism is focused on Washington. It basically breaks down to "don't tread on me." Most people didn't have a problem with your Great Society until the riots started and the Counter-culture started attacking them.
