I thought automation killed coal, or at least employment in coal mines. Jobs in coal mining have been on a near continuous decline for a century.

Automation was part of it (though that mostly took effect several decades ago) as specialized digging machines ran by a single person could do the work of hundreds of men in a single day. The main problem for the last decade or so is that coal costs much, much more than natural gas. NG is simply less expensive by a large margin, easier and cheaper to distribute is existing pipelines compared to expensive trains or trucks. Plus NG is simply better for the environment producing less pollution.

It has always been about economics which is why it was so laughable that Republicans babbled made up nonsense about "a war on coal" when it was always just the free market at work. People are rational actors (most of the time) and cheaper is cheaper so they go with getting the same job done for less money and that means coal loses out to NG.

I only know about her comment regarding 70% maximum taxes, which has been atracked by conservatives, but actually has been backed by economic scientific papers (and also is a maximum tax rate that actually had been in force in the USA some decades ago)

Ceausescu was making a speech outside of Communist Party HQ in Bucharest, when the crowd started booing, hurling insults. I can think of many things Trump has been already charged with, and bought his way out of jail sentences.

I looked it up an apparently she said Israel is occupying Palestine, and acknowledged that she is not an expert on geopolitics. Of course in the US a politician isn't allowed to acknowledge that they do not know everything or that Israel is occupying the West Bank.
