  • You can get Valtra Tractors, in which a slightly modified one (they removed the onboard programming limiters), and got 120 MPH. In Finland. For about 30k.

Yeah, a Tractor could definitely beat a Roadster.

    • Again... please provide a cite... I don't see anywhere it says it averages 25 MPH.

And the roadster got up to 125MPH which is faster that 120

      • Range would be BETTER at a higher average speed... the 25 mph estimate is for driving in urban conditions where you have to stop at stoplights. Conventional automobiles get better gas mileage on the highway than they do in the city. What a maroon...

              • Ming, it's in your source. I can't help you if you didn't actually read what it said.

Yep and after the next stoplight you got to plug it in again for 6 hours.

The world distance record of 501 km (311 mi) for a production electric car on a single charge was set by a Roadster on October 27, 2009, during the Global Green Challenge in outback Australia, in which it averaged a speed of 25 mph (40 km/h).
Right in the header of the article, Ming. First paragraph.

                • Giblets, also in Ming's source it talks about how the test for the Tesla Roadster range was done in Alice Springs Australia. The reason they drove at 25 mph to extend the range is to reduce losses due to Friction.

You would have known it if you read up on it. Nothing to do with highways or anything, just a little test where they don't tell you the particulars of the test that really expose how the test has nothing to do with real driving conditions.

My "source" was simply a box with a picture and the limited information I showed... It provided no other details.
I did not notice a link to a place with more information... So you are looking at something far more complete than where I grabbed the picture from.

                        You mean this?
The world distance record of 501 km (311 mi) for a production electric car on a single charge was set by a Roadster on October 27, 2009, during the Global Green Challenge in outback Australia, in which it averaged a speed of 25 mph (40 km/h).[16][17] In March 2010, a Tesla Roadster became the first electric vehicle to win the Monte Carlo Alternative Energy Rally and the first to win any Federation Internationale de l'Automobile-sanctioned championship when a Roadster driven by former Formula One driver Érik Comas beat 96 competitors for range, efficiency and performance in the three-day, nearly 1,000-kilometer (620 mi) challenge.[18]

Yeah, I ignored/didn't read that because it was tied to them trying to set the world distance record. You will note that the 311 miles is far greater than the 245 miles estimate as shown for normal driving. So your 25 MPH average comment is based on one specific test that was set up specifically to maximize distance, not normal driving.

                        • I love how Ben posted the ave speed (without any qualifier) then when it's pointed out has to start adding qualifiers. Typical Ben.
And then was lower on the top speed and again, qualifiers. Just keep changing as you go along, eventually you'll say something right.

You could say they care about the environment too much, as their own plan would have used the tax to promote clean energy. Washington is a pretty liberal place, they may be able to eventually get their own version of the Carbon Tax instead. In which case, from their perspective, it would have been the right move.

(I'm not familiar enough with the details of the competing plans to give an opinion of my own on which is better.)

But I-732 preempted a separate carbon tax effort that had been underway in the state, led by a large coalition of environmental and public health groups, communities of color, and labor unions. The coalition had been working to design a plan that would spend the tax revenue on clean energy and water initiatives that would create jobs, as well as projects to alleviate the burden of pollution and climate risk in communities of color. The coalition said it tried to initiate discussions toward a compromise with Bauman's group, but Carbon WA was committed to the tax-swap approach.

I was right that the tractor could beat the roadster in a fair, equal distance race.
