Pope: Catholics should ask gay people for forgiveness
IMO - if you're willing to sell your foodstamps for smokes and booze, you shouldn't be getting them. I have no qualms with giving a fair deal to people scamming the system so I can use them in the manner they were intended. You know, to actually buy food.

So you partake in criminal activity and not report it? Food stamps are often meant for kids. As someone who works with the authorities, this type of activity must be reported immediately.

What sin? I'm not the one selling public benefits for smokes and booze. Sales would instantly stop if the folks selling them were cut off from their benefits. In which case, I'd be providing a public service to Texas by helping them find people who didn't need the benefits.

You said in a previous posting, that you think that they used the money in order to finance their alcoholism and tobacco addiction.
So, is it moral to finance someone elses addictions (thereby probably preventing him from getting over said addictions and leading a normal life), just for your own personal gains (i.e. getting cheap food stamps)?

Meant for kids? Not in the US, no. These are folks who are scamming the system, applying for benefits that they do not need.

I actually stopped doing it when I realized that the true reason for food stamps was to raise the price of groceries for everybody, and that rather than decreasing food stamp use, I was increasing it by sending a signal to the system that there was greater demand for them.

Cash is neutral. They could use the cash for just about anything. Buying them alcohol is one thing, but giving them cash is not in itself making a moral decision for them, they are still choosing to use the money in such a fashion.
But you are right about that. I had long talks with the folks selling, and trying to point out why it was a bad deal for them and why they should get off the booze. Best thing I did was getting out of that arrangement when I could afford to do so.
I didn't like the arrangement where I was but, there were some really tough months for me, trying to dig out of a hole. I got out, partially because I was willing to scrimp and do what I could to get out. You have to save and build up a float again.
