You cut out part of that quote by the way, the full quote was.. "The patient or resident is the weakest voice in the system,” he said. “It is a classic market failure —the user doesn’t know nearly as much as the professionals, even with the Internet. We can talk about competition until the cows come home but if you live in Norwich there is one hospital"
Something that your most recent posts have done an admirable job of showing.
What you also failed to mention was that the gentleman in question was now a Conservative MP who had just taken up responsibility for healthcare regulation. As part of a government who were in the process of hacking deeply into the NHS's budgets, and then blaming the system for failing to keep up with demands. You know, exactly the kind of soulless **** that your new Republican friends would wet themselves over.

Is that why they have to all go to the ER?

Contrary to US conservatives wet dreams however, this is not the death knell of the NHS. Rather its the death knell of the conservative government who has wildly over-stepped its mandate, brazenly lied about its intentions and which will crash and burn at the next election.

Both Prior and Lamb’s suggestions – that hospital beds should be eliminated in order to provide better overall care – was blasted by professor David Oliver, the former clinical director for the elderly. He pointed out that the UK has already lost one-third of its acute hospital beds in the last two decades, meaning that per head of the population it has fewer services than any comparable country.
“How do you take capacity out of acute hospital provision when people are still pilling though the doors in record numbers and hospitals are so pressurized? If you take capacity out, people end up being treated on any flat surface and in the hospital corridors,” Oliver told the Daily Telegraph.I drank beer. I like beer. I still like beer. ... That's the thing about universal healthcare, if you fund it properly then it works really well and efficiently. If you slash away at it because you're a stupid fuckhole who hates the idea of poor people being alive, then the system starts to break down.
