This is why you people spend $4 for a tiny cup of coffee.

This is pretty funny. In the UK you can register for any doctor you please. Don't like one? Cool, go find another, there's a basically endless list to choose from.

This is quite funny, considering the French are actually moving to a system more like the UK's from next year.

really, do you have a link about this? (english or french is fine).

I don't, I'm just going off what my French doctor told me a few months back. At the moment you have to pay the doctor when you visit but if you have a Carte Vitale (national health card) they reimburse 70% automatically from the state, and then if you have an employer scheme you can get the other 30% back (depending on what the treatment is & what your scheme is etc). I'm pretty sure he said they're changing over to a system where you don't have to pay directly that is more like the NHS. He definitely referenced the NHS as an example. He said some doctors are a bit worried that they'll get more people turning up, but then again French doctors are a bit old fashioned and independent minded anyway.

I'll do some internet scanning and see if I can find proper details. I was only half listening to be fair.

                  • Ahah!

Payment-free doctors visits: The bill would end the current system that sees patients cover part of the cost of a doctor’s visit. It would come into effect for special cases by 2015 and by 2017 for everyone. The idea is to better prevent illness, which is less costly and produces better results than trying to treat a problem that’s long gone unchecked.

I saw something else just now about a change where employers have to have a scheme in place to cover at least 50% of health costs though, which sounds much more like the US. I'll see if I can catch our HR woman later in the week and get more information.

                          $4 is not around $2.

And you still can't go to see them in a reasonable time frame.

Because they ran out of money. The US plan will also run out of money and the liberals will try to move us to a crappy system like the UK system.

Where I come from it's not acceptable to judge people who are 15 minutes late one time, and blame them for the way the entire health care system is ****ed up.
