Trump's lead in the Republican nomination race has taken a major beating from this latest controversy. Ted Cruz is now leading because he's the sane rational one. He now believes that dictatorships are the safest governments in the Middle East and that we should support them. After saying that he rolled over, pulled up the covers and gave his bed-mate Vlad a little peck on the cheek.

Hasn't Cruz made statements similar to Trump's about Mexicans and Muslims at some point in the past?
"I say shoot'em all and let God sort it out in the end!

Kiss Our Intelligence Apparatus Goodnight. We need to work with Muslims both foreign and domestic. It’s one thing to label Islamic terrorism and radical Islam a problem. It’s another to label all individual Muslims a problem. That’s what this policy does. It’s factually wrong and ethically incomprehensible. Donald Trump has just transformed into the strawman President Obama abused on Sunday night.

So no, this isn’t a good idea. It’s a rotten idea all the way around: legally, ethically, practically. Trump’s supporters need to realize at some point that knee-jerk extreme reactions to events of the day don’t substitute for good judgment. It’s ugly when it’s President Obama looking to grab guns from American citizens without due process, and it’s ugly from Donald Trump. Given the poll numbers, it’s not clear whether Americans will get wise to that truth.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

The poll numbers have been interesting. So far I have just seen Rasmussen, which is the least reliable polling group according to 538 which tracks this sort of stuff, but their numbers show some pretty high levels of support.
Despite an international uproar and condemnation by President Obama and nearly all of those running for the presidency, Donald Trump’s proposed ban on Muslims coming to the United States has the support of a sizable majority of Republicans – and a plurality of all voters.

I would like to see polls from more companies with better records but honestly I think we are going to see a tightening up of immigration laws especially if a Republican some how manages to win. I doubt it will be explicitly based upon a religion but likely some other method which has a broadly similar effect.

I'm fairly sure we'd have a lot more to talk about if the 1.5 billion Muslims were at war with us. Especially as a Muslim country has nuclear weapons.

Why do you call it his "Muslim comments?" You sound like you're afraid that people will only call Trump a racist if you use language that makes you sound like an idiot.

It was implying that Muslims are generally more loyal to their religion than they are to their host country or the West. You can count on only a small minority to report suspicious activity etc.

All of that really doesn't sound realistic. I can believe that a war would cause Muslims to not help us. I can believe that holding Muslims captive would cause Muslims to not help us. I can believe that supporting Israel would cause Muslims not to help us. I can believe that being Christian, or non-Muslim, would cause Muslims not to help us. I can believe that Hollywood Movies and Western decadence would cause Muslims not to help us. But why would not allowing terrorist to come to this country cause Muslims not to help us?

If that was true, then why are there multiple neighbouring Muslim countries?

You don't see how banning an entire religion of people from your country might piss off people of that country?

Pissing off and not reporting possible terrorism or joining ISIS is different.

If Muslims care more about religion than state, then why are there a number of Muslim states all bordering each other? Surely if religion came first for them, they would have a new Caliphate by now?
