  • California's water problems would be nonexistent if they just charged farmers market rates. And had environmental laws that allowed construction of desalination plants.
CA's water reservoirs have more than enough to keep up with their current usage. This 'crisis' is totally overblown, but it serves Moonbeam's purposes in shredding water contracts dating back a century.

Possibly the most striking photo I've seen in hydrogeology.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

It depends on where the bonds were sold. When Argentina turned into deadbeats, for the fourth or fifth time in 80 years, U.S. courts actually had jurisdiction because the bonds were under written and issued in New York. This has caused them huge legal troubles.

              • Argentina had to issue them in the US in order to make them dollar denominated. Argentina needed to do that because no one was willing to get paid back in Argentine Pesos.

Yep. I looked up the reservoir numbers for year over year and they are down about 10 percent from the year before. Crisis? What crisis?

                  • What do you want to bet the Greek debt bonds were under written and sold in places like London, Frankfurt, and New York?

                    • About 10% are issued under foreign law. Most are Greek law.

                      • I suspect that the most pressing issue may be the ECB's continuing quiet support of Greek banks. The bonds are bad, but if the ECB pulls the plug then it is game over for Greece.

Reservoirs are not the issue, aquifers are.

                          • People are pulling money out of greek banks. I think that's the best sign that an exit from the eurozone, or capital controls, is becoming likely. http://www.wsj.com/articles/greek-pr...mit-1434711032
