Over here, there's a type of very basic bank account which banks must provide for free. You're of course only allowed one, and only if it's your only bak account (generally, banks provide the employees of their company clients with free accounts as well, which are better than those). Also, banks can't charge ATM fees from clients using that bank's ATM (and most accounts besides the most basic also offer fee-less withdrawals on other banks'ATMs, as long as they are the same ATM system, of which there are two major companies). Also, transfers of up to ~1k USD monthly are free of charge if made through an ATM or the internet.

yeah it's the same situation in brasil. banks have to provide a free account and people can make one free withdrawal a month; there is a small charge for further withdrawals. there are also a few other services provided for free, but these are quite limited.

As a net contributor myself, I see how the measure is intended to limit fraud. Personally, if you can afford to be mad at getting 20 dollars for free, you don't need my money. It's more than my rent if you get 20 dollars everyday. I've lived on less previously.

I'm a firm believer in the efficacy of private charity rather than forcing people to give up their money so that the government can collect. I'm willing to bet they take a much larger chunk than 20 percent of all tax collection. The commies here are upset that the recipient is the evillll banks, not their union buddies.

And yes, I've never been rich. I laugh at rich folks like ming and rah accusing me of hating the poor. They probably call black people uncle Toms too. To their faces.
