  • She was certainly a racist, yet worked with the African American community on many issues and received plaudits from MLK. People are complex like that. She also supported eugenics from the perspective of preventing conception rather than actually killing people with mental and physical issues from what I understand.

Really interesting and complicated woman. Some of the things she supported are abhorrent today, yet she did some really positive and influential work. Ben should actually like her, as she was also a strong believer in people controlling their sexual impulses and not having promiscuous sex.

    • Ah, this is where the black genocide nonsense got started..

Sanger wanted the Negro Project to include black ministers in leadership roles, but other supervisors did not. To emphasize the benefits of involving black community leaders, she wrote to Gamble "we do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members." This quote has been cited by Angela Davis to support her claims that Sanger wanted to exterminate black people. However, New York University's Margaret Sanger Papers Project, argues that in writing that letter, "Sanger recognized that elements within the black community might mistakenly associate the Negro Project with racist sterilization campaigns in the Jim Crow South, unless clergy and other community leaders spread the word that the Project had a humanitarian aim."

You'd have to really desperately want to discredit her, to read that as in any way a desire to exterminate black people. Then again, I suppose with people like Ben, that isn't any actual surprise.

      • And obvious why he has to teach history in a school that doesn't require state accreditation.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

            • Hmm, turns out Margaret Singer was actually anti-abortion. Well that just makes this even funnier.

Ben is a follower of Singer, not Jesus. Hilarious.

                • Margaret Sanger didn't support black genocide.

Yeah, she was a proponent of Mathusianism, and of eugenics and believed that exterminating black people meant better living conditions for white people.

What part of, "the Catholic church rejects the division of sex from children" is so difficult to get? She was a proponent of sterilization, too, something that only a Catholic opposed when it came up to the Supreme court in the 30s.

I have a history degree, rah. Might want to mention that they prefer history degrees to ed degrees.

The source has already been cited in the thread, and the historical evidence is solid. I've shown a willingness to reject the common narrative in favor of the actual truth plenty of times. Which is what history is supposed to teach, even if the teachers do not.

Sterility neither prohibits nor nullifies marriage

So apparently it's you, not the Catholic church, who believes that sex should only be undertaken as a means of producing offspring

No, she said she didn't want people to think she believed that. Why would a black minister help her dispel such a rumor if she was in fact a racist?

Because according to Ben, the history major, MLK also wanted to genocide black people.
