Our agriculture sector is just fine, you moron. That's why we are embargoing Euros and yours food on our market. We are food exporters as well as importers, but you know what? That happens when you have an open market and it is incorporated to the global market. We can't grow pineapples and bananas here no matter how we try, due to such little thing as climate. Not that we can do anything about the people's tastes - some people always prefer French wines or Western whiskies over domestic alcohols (the price doesn't matter). If you are a part of global economy - you are doomed to export some, no matter what. Any supermarket nearby my house is no much different from any American supermarket. The manufacturers might differ, but the variety of goods is the same (and for the most case - trademarks are the same). Are you really that stupid to think we don't have McDonald or Ikea or KFC in my home city in the middle of Siberia? Your corporations are here for decades - all across the Russia - wrt every aspect. But the good thing is that wrt to food -we buy domestic, despite we have a choice.

I always buy only a local food 'cause it's way more healthy and delicious. I don't know where you got your dumb numbers, but the reality is that Russia has become one of the major exporters on the food market (which she never was during the Soviet times), not one of the exporters.

When you are growing 1/3rd of the value and importing 2/3rds of the value then you are not doing just fine. There are many, many fruits and vegetables which will grow in Russia but 50% of your fruit and around one quarter of the veggies rot before getting to market due to poor transportation, storage, processing, and packaging facilities. Those are major long term investments which cannot be fixed in a few years so your import ban won't significantly change those problems. Subsidizing farmers then allowing half of their produce to rot before reaching market is retarded. You are wasting half of the money and effort, genius.
