An excellent article by the Economist of London. Russia is way more fragile than it looks, Mr. Putin insured that when he eschewed institution building in favor of personal dictatorship. The reality is the country has a million fault lines and ethnic groups which want independence. The main Argent against that was the western argument that post Soviet borders should never be changed but Putin himself has undermined that and, ironically, Russia itself has the most to lose as a result.
Kerilia, kalingrad, the Kerilia islands, all of these places don't have strong historical ties to Russia while numerous places (the Caucasus region for one) are ethnically, liquistically, and religiously different and so prone to independence. Regions like Kazan have 2 million tartar and only 1.5 million ethnic Russians while even the Ural region and Siberia flirted with independence in 1993. Worse Putin has let the governors of these regions more or less run mini dictatorships without the rule of law as long as they rig elections for Putin.
This system can come apart easily if the dictator cab no longer deliver. As always short sighted self interest by the elites means Russia is ready to come apart in the medium term. Ironically, Putin blames everything on America but America is the last country which wants to see Russia break up because it doesn't want a lot of new unstable countries with nuclear weapons. Ellestar is too busy liking Putin's taint and mouthing bull **** to understand any of this thpugh.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

This is a very stupid article, Oerdin. There's no way most of these regions will ever secede. That article is like Panarin's ramblings about the disintegration of the US.Graffiti in a public toilet

Russian Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky has announced that workers of the Russian State Archive should not give their own evaluations of archival documents.
Russia has declared war on reality. When academics at the Russian State Archive dared to point out that the government's latest propaganda film is a work of historical fiction with no basis in history Putin cronies threaten to have them fired. That is just sad and pathetic.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

Further more, there is a massive problem with corruption and eventually average people are going to get upset seeing their health care cut yet Putin's press secretary is wearing a $500,000 Swiss made watch despite an official salary of just $20,000.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

My picture said the watch was $670,000.“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”

The US military has for weeks been training Ukrainian forces in US tactics, but the commander of US Army Europe says Ukrainian forces, who are fighting Russian-backed separatists, have much to teach their US trainers.
That is a good article. One ability that surprised NATO was Russia's advanced jamming equipment but sadly Russia's invasion of the Ukraine tipped NATO off to this and now they are developing counter measures. Worse sanctions and low oil prices are going to mean Russia is going to have a harder tI'm modernizing it's forces.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate.

So archival workers were rightfully told to shut up. It's not their business to criticize state propaganda, given that it's up to international standards anyway.Knowledge is Power
