Totally ignoring the fact that Putin made it illegal to call for a referendum to secede from Russia.

I have to admit that Ellestar is right in one thing however:
It wasn't the Karelian activist who was sentenced to 3 years

But there was a person who was sentenced to 3 years in prison on ground opf the new anti secession law:
A crimean Tartar activist (from Crimea)

His crime:
He created online postings in which he criticised the Kremlin and the annexation of Crimea


Considering that you can get put into prison, just for posting criticism regarding the Kremlin, I now understand that Ellestar probably is just careful and doesn't want to get the attention of the FSB.
Seems like the times have returned when, if you are living in russia, a little bit of Paranoia is important for your survival ... just like in the good old times of the USSR
