Changes to Law on Ukrainian Citizenship considered to be 'in the public interest'

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed into law a measure to grant Ukrainian citizenship to foreigners who protect and defend the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.

The head of the state made the move in response to the e-petition "to grant the Ukrainian citizenship to foreigners who protected and defended Ukraine in a war zone," posted on his official website.

A number of foreigners, who were selected for Ukraine's key official posts, have already obtained the Ukrainian citizenship - US citizen of Ukrainian origin Natalie Jaresko (current Ministry of Finance), Lithuanian Aivaras Abromavicius (current Ministry of Economy), Georgian-born Ekaterina Zguladze (First Deputy Interior Minister), Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili (current Odesa governor) and some others.

Ukrainian lawmakers also adopted a draft law legalizing the service of foreigners in the Ukrainian armed forces on October 6.

Russian made agricultural machinery is , in every way, inferior to those made in the west, much of it is ancient Soviet designs which have been barely modernized, yet Putin has ordered Russian farmers to only buy Russian made machinery. The result? -30% Russian production of agricultural machinery due to few people being able to afford it and Russian banks slashing lending due to sanctions. What do you expect? A majority of that population are actually Russians. I mean, look at "Ukrainian" language, it's a Polish/Galician dialect. But people of Galicia (who are, like, closest to "Ukrainian" nation) don't even want to fight, they have THE lowest conscription rates, while eastern (Russian) regions of Ukraine have the higest. Galicians ("Ukraininans"), unlike Russians, have no state thinking, they were serfs under various neighbours for like all their history, so they can't make a state of Ukraine. And Russians are out of favor now. So they're calling "Variags" from other countries (that's how we call them in Russia, just like Variags were called to rule in Kievan Rus at a time when it was founded). History repeats itself...

At the very least, wages and pensions were not delayed by half a year or more in 1987 or in 2007. But they were in 1997 (or at least in 1990s, i don't remember exact years). And that hits low-income families a lot, when they're living from one wage or pension to another as it is. And with all "deficit" of goods in USSR, actual consumption was relatively high even for low-income families.

Soviet roubles were technically company scrips, not real money. Scrips can be created on demand, and a closed economy of a company town can be used to bend market behavior much harder than any other. I am not saying that government intervention is bad, unlike some crazy Rothbardists, but 1987 wasn't a great year at all. I remember my mother using my stroller to carry home lots of canned goods when they suddenly appeared in the nearby grocery store.

It was in the very end when everything was collapsing. It's not like it was like that all the time during communism. But it wasn't any better in Yeltsin times, we were asking for food aid too, with a "western democracy" and a "good pro-western guy" Yeltsin.

And we gave the post USSR all the food aid they wante, so much so that they started rejecting it for lowering food prices too much. The reality is there was always going to be a decade of hard adjustments after the end of the disfunctional communist system no matter who was in charge. Yes tin had good intentions but didn't do all the things necissary to create a functioning market economy. For instance ownership of land wasn't legalized until Putin's first term. Poland did a much better job and didn't half ass the transformation the way Russia did and today they are far better off because of it.

Russia needs true rule of law and a whole series of economic and political reforms if it wants to prosper but, sadly, that will not happen under your current corrupt dictatorship.
