this is very true. over 5 million people voted for either UKIP or the greens, result, 1 MP each. 5 million people represented by 2 MPs. unfortunately there's about as much chance of electoral reform being passed as of you joining the communist party.Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostThe fact that the UKIP only won one or two seats despite getting something like 10% of the vote is pretty much proof positive the UK electoral system needs some serious fixing. Well, it's basically the same system only that third parties have a greater importance in the UK. The US has its Greens, Libertarians, Socialists - but those parties are generally tiny. Mostly because the Republicans and Democrats try to convince the third parties sympathizers that they are a "big tent". However, who knows if that will last - it does not, it may not forever.Originally posted by Hauldren Collider View PostThey are free to vote for them, but they won't win. In the US, someone who would be the equivalent of a UKIP candidate would just run in the primary. Obviously our system isn't perfect but I think it does a better job.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

It actually beggars belief how utterly and insanely wrong you are about basically everything. Today was an appalling result for UKIP, which is why Farage resigned you idiot.Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostAnd Farage leaving UKIP is just rubbish. The party was the ultimate winner today.

The question now becomes whether that majority will actually hold up for 4-5 years. If they enact some of the things I suspect they might, we may well end up with another election much sooner.

there'll be a lot of right-wing tory troublemakers who will relish the opportunity to stick their oars in once the euphoria dies down. it may end up looking a bit like john major's government.Originally posted by kentonio View PostThe question now becomes whether that majority will actually hold up for 4-5 years. quadrupling their number of votes can hardly be described as appalling.Originally posted by kentonio View PostIt actually beggars belief how utterly and insanely wrong you are about basically everything. UKIP was the ultimate election winner today with a jump of 9.5 percent of the electorate. 3x that of SNP.It actually beggars belief how utterly and insanely wrong you are about basically everything. Today was an appalling result for UKIP, which is why Farage resigned you idiot
Farage is clearly not the problem. Seats will come, they have the right vision and are on the right course. Expecting a party with less than 2 percent to jump in and take 10+ seats is not reasonable, even though that's essentially what they accomplished votewise. They have a broad base, like the Tories and Labor.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.
