the tories will have a majority. i must say i'm surprised by this result, which is of course another false majority (
), but nonetheless impressive on its own terms.

I'm not sure its impressive as such, more a (deeply predictable) indictment of Ed Milliband.Originally posted by C0ckney View Postthe tories will have a majority. i must say i'm surprised by this result, which is of course another false majority (

it was hardly predictable as no one predicted it! every poll and every website like electoral calculus predicted a hung parliament. even the most optimistic tories, if media reports are to be believed, didn't expect it."The Christian way has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found to be hard and left untried" - GK Chesterton.

Not the majority, as much as Labour completely failing to capitalize on a very vulnerable Tory party due to being led by a man lacking any of the leadership skills you need in a national election. I don't think any of us expected the conservatives to actually gain seats, but equally I'd have been shocked if Labour had taken a majority, and have felt like that for Millibands entire time at the time. He's a godawful leader for a national party.Originally posted by C0ckney View Postit was hardly predictable as no one predicted it! every poll and every website like electoral calculus predicted a hung parliament. even the most optimistic tories, if media reports are to be believed, didn't expect it.

yes i expect we'll hear a lot about leadership and all that guff in the next few weeks. i think that what should be done is to have all future elections run as two concurrently held polls, one for government and one for a leader, people would only be allowed to vote in one and would have to choose which. i think british governance would improve greatly as a result.

Personally I'd prefer people having to answer a series of questions with no indication of which candidate or party the answers represent. Then at the end you can go "Jesus christ, I just voted Tory/Green/Communist Party/BNP!!!!" or whatever and it actually represent your beliefs.

The people have spoken
the bastards.“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”
― C.S. Lewis, The Abolition of Man
