It's not absolute. Calls for violence and words that incite violence (such as yelling "FIRE" in a crowded theater) can be punished, but it has to be an imminent threat - like saying "Let's Kill X Right Now" while giving a speech a few blocks away from X is illegal. But saying something like "Someone should just kill X" while hanging out with some friends hundreds of miles from where X lives is not actionable.

Unless the person in question is the President of the United States in which case an SUV containing several agents in suits with guns will likely be at your house within 24 hours.

The secret service doesn't waste its time interviewing people who joke about killing the president unless they actually think the person is loony enough to try it. Admittedly their standard for thinking someone might try it is probably looser than it should be but you aren't gonna have the popo knocking just cause you told an assassination joke and someone heard you. Even when they do come around (rare but not unheard of) there's never an arrest, they basically just confirm you aren't some schizophrenic dude like the guy who shot Reagan and go on their way.

...Lassana Bathily, 24, originally from Mali in west Africa, guided terrified customers to safety in a supermarket chiller at the Hyper Cacher supermarket in Porte de Vincennes, Paris, yesterday.

He has since been praised for his quick-thinking and bravery after 15 hostages, which reportedly included two children, escaped the ordeal, in which gunman Amedy Coulibaly was killed as he attempted to flee.

Using a goods lift he escaped and was able to give the police valuable information about what was happening inside and where the hostages were hiding.

Shy and reluctant to tell his story, Mr Bathily, who went to school in Paris, admitted that after the shoot-out many of the customers came to shake his hand and thank him for what he did.

Today his picture – labelled Malian Muslim – has been tweeted around the world as a symbol of the good of people united against terrorism, and there have been calls for him to be awarded the French Medal of Honour for his bravery...

Isn't it time western countries stopped allow more Muslims into their countries? At some point you just have to recognize you made a mistake and then stop making the mistake. No one has a right to immigrate so you just say no more and start deporting those who are not citizens but on temperary visas of one kind or another. Start draining the swamp.

Quota systems have served well in the past and could do so again. Just allocate zero for a quota for an country that is majority muslim.

a better question might be to ask whether they actually exist. for example, the media and most middle class brazilians would say that favelas are no go areas, yet i, a white foreigner, have been into more than 50, and lived in 2 of them. so we should be careful about taking such definitions and statements at face value.

Many would suggest that the area of Cardiff I live in is a no go area. It has a high proportion of muslims living in it and is a poor area, but any trouble, and there really isn't that much because it is blown out of all proportion, is committed by native white trash, and not the muslims...
