Same. Ayn Rand's perspectives on markets is valuable. And I'm Catholic too. I can look at Rand and disagree with some things that she says, (regarding the role of faith), while agreeing with other parts.

I still don't like his religious talk but there is some interesting stuff when you really dig into the poll numbers wrt to Republican primary voters in Virginia 7th district. It turns out immigration wasn't the top issue for voters and instead it was populist stuff about corrupt big business getting special favors from corrupt politicians like Cantor. Brat spent a lot of time railing against crony capitalism and his party's obsession with special privileges for lobbyists. Watch the video.

So, I notice that this Brat fellow, like many in the GOP, claims to be a huge fan of both Ayn Rand and Jesus, despite their representing utterly incompatible philosophies.

this is a very important point and one which should get more attention. there is no political philosophy (although frankly to call rand's writings that is doing her a massive favour) more incompatible with christianity than 'objectivism'; not only in its explicit rejection of religion and spirituality, but also in its relentless individualism and promotion of selfishness as a virtue.

it's very hard to understand why anyone who calls themselves a christian would accept rand's political philosophy, when literally any other, including marxism and political islam, would be a better fit.

The reality is the evangelical "religious right" isn't remotely interested in the actual teachings of Jesus and instead are just selfish pieces of dog **** mainly interested in racial hatred and attacking groups they don't like. They just call themselves christians to fool the truly stupid.

Once you understand that their white nationalist class warfare becomes much more understandable (and make no mistake racism is the PRIMARY motivation for the far right in America).

This primary result makes it more likely and in a regular year it probably would result in that. That said, this is an off year election where elderly white people mostly vote while young people and non-whites don't vote thus why Republicans are projected to do well in Nov.

It seems true though maybe the guy actually means his anti-crony capitalism stuff. I doubt it will last longer than it takes him to rack in lobbyist cash but maybe, just maybe he really means it. Either way it is nice to see a guy as ****ty as Cantor get ****canned especially as we have a 98% reelection rate for incumbents. That's the power of gerrymandered districts so it is nice to see one drown in his own bull**** once in a while.

well be that as it may, the point i'm making is that there are people who are sincere christians yet at the same time espouse randian ideas, even here, we have posters who do this. what i'm trying to understand is how, because as i said, there is no philosophy less compatible with christianity than objectivism.
