It's about what does Cantor's loss mean for the GOP. Brat's bio is below the fold (so to speak) in the Politics subfolder. Heck, an article on Brat's Democratic opponent is one of the top headlines!“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

They have more important things to cover, like actual interesting Senate races.

It's akin to saying Obama's gaffe is no big deal and the media is going to forget about it and then linking to townhall saying "SEE, they are still talking about it!"
If you think HuffPo is the mainstream media, or has impact on it, you are far more ignorant of this country than I thought.
Also, I checked out HuffPo, a profile on Brat is a bit down site - not nearly top news now is it? It isn't even that interesting to HuffPo!“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Or perhaps filter by News Websites instead of Political Website..
That puts it at number 2 most visited ahead of CNN, FOX, New York Times, Washington Post, NBC and the rest.

Maybe you need to open your eyes to the sources people are increasingly turning to for their news these days.

I seriously think it is beyond hilarious that you think HuffPo drives the media narrative in this country.
You just keep digging this hole and you don't even realize it.
(You also seem to ignore that Brat's story isn't in Top News on HuffPo anymore... you have scroll to find anything on Brat in particular rather than a focus on Cantor's loss)“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. I don't give a flying **** about the 'media narrative', I'm talking about the actual sites that people visit to get their news. People are increasingly turning away from paper and TV news towards internet news. If you think tens of millions of people seeing these headlines and articles doesn't have an effect, then I really don't know what to say to you.

Some headlines on HuffPo's top page, btw:
Why D*ck Jokes Are Relevant - by Bob Saget (no really)
The Importance of Being Fluent in the Language of Texting - Dr. Peggy Drexler
The Most Overrated Movies From The Last 15 Years
Louis C.K. Slams TMZ For Insensitive Tracy Morgan Video
Gilbert Gottfried: Bowe Bergdahl Is A Modern Day Nancy Kerrigan
Btw, I actually scan/read Huffington Post a few times a week. Most of the headlines are Buzzfeed quality. It drives the media narrative slightly more than the Daily Kos, probably less than TPM. Partisan sites that people choose to visit to validate their beliefs doesn't have any impact on things actually happening in society. Heck, their top story resembles the top of the Drudge Report (it looks like it does so on purpose). People will have less respect for a partisan site that looks like a tabloid than they would for the NYTimes, CNN, etc.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

There's a newspaper in the UK called The Sun (don't know if you've heard of it). Its a totally trashy piece of ****, with a topless woman on page 3 every day and stories about celebrities love lives etc etc etc. Until recently it was also one of the most important media drivers steering public opinion about politics. Every election cycle the political classes would sneer about how the effect was overblown and then the party leaders would go creeping to the paper trying to get their backing.
You underestimate the power of this kind of thing at your peril. The majority of people are the ones who want to read trash and who will have their political opinions influenced by a loud headline or a strident article.
