Why? It's true. The chair and ranking members of the House and Senate Intel committees were informed of the raid to kill OBL before it happened. No leaks. The fate of a deserter is of less importance than that and he were to believe the President was so afraid details of the deal would leak out that he couldn't be bothered to inform Congress it was in the works as required by law. It doesn't make any sense.

The focus of a global manhunt... an individual responsible for the worst terror attack in history...

      versus

      A kidnapped soldier

If you can't see why your statement was stupid, nothing I say will help. It's completely self-evident.

Bergdahl and his life were less important than the security of the raid to kill OBL. So no, I don't see a valid reason why he broke the law in failing to inform Congress it was in the works as he was required to do by law.

Do you think the Congressional members of the period would have been informed regarding an operation to kill or capture Adolf Hitler?

What about an operation to rescue a single POW from Nazi custody?

The stupidity of your statements is astounding.

The problem isn't securing Bergdahl, the problem was illegally releasing detainees without notifying Congress.

I guess you'd rather be dishonest though, than acknowledge that Republicans ever have a valid point.

I'm referring only to the facts.
Republican Intel Chair Mike Rogers Praises Obama on bin Laden Capture; Says Navy SEALs Cheered with Assignment
The Republican congressman had nothing but praise for President Obama about the way the raid of Osama bin Laden’s compound was carried out and the way Congressional Republicans were informed in the planning.

“All of the hours of arguing over budgeting and the things we debate at times all get washed away when it comes to getting the #1 bad guy in the world,” he said.

Rogers said he and other members of the committee were first told about the bin Laden compound in January, shortly after he became chairman when Republicans took leadership of the House.

We were briefed all along the way. The administration allowed us to weigh in on the debate about what we thought was the way to go about it. There were different plans, as you would imagine, about best way to approach this,” Rogers said. “I give the administration credit on making the decision on going to act when they saw what was a good piece of intelligence.”
I can't help it if you find reality to be biased against you.

That's the opposite of what you are doing.

You are referring to the handiwork of a GOP strategist.

How are they not notified? I'm notified of it.

Plus, the "illegal" thing here is the fact we've got "detainees" being held without charge in the first place!

The idiocy of this issue is unfathomable. Five guys got released. Afghanistan is probably the most heavily surveilled region on the planet. Drone strikes are indiscriminately killing people left and right. I have no idea what the average life expectancy for a Taliban commander or fighter is, but I don't suspect it's very long.

But somehow, we've surrendered and Obama is a traitor.

                  Who is being dishonest here?

OH YEAH I GUESS YOU GUYS ARE JUST A STICKLERS FOR EXECUTIVE/LEGISLATIVE PROCEDURE HUH?

The facts that he's a deserter and that Obama likely broke the law in the deal to get him back are pretty much undeniable by neutral observers at this point.

Sava the man left a note stating that he was deserting the Army. The very people that served with him are saying that he was a deserter. How much more clear cut can you get? Felch has already dealt with the legal requirement to notify Congress 30 days before a transfer of a Gitmo inmate.

You have only yourselves to blame. After decades of constant bull****, nobody believes you.

I've heard similar "reports". Sadly, second and third hand testimony is hearsay. And considering this is being pushed by a GOP strategist, it's perfectly reasonable to rely on the "Bull**** until proven otherwise" approach.

Don't believe me then. Believe the NYT that reported on the note, the fact that if the Pentagon's 2010 investigation had cleared him you'd have heard about it by now, and the statements of the people that served with Bergdahl.

                              oh... a 2010 investigation huh?

You should tell members of your own party about that.

Yes, the U.S. concluded in 2010 that Bergdahl walked away.
