Bush was a lousy president but that does not mean he shared every flaw we see in the current administration.

Do you really think Bush would even consider returning acknowledged "terrorists" to other acknowledged "terrorists"? I'd even go so far as to say the Bush administration would be too pigheaded to even consider a simple cash payment to such people, regardless of expected return.

I could almost imagine an under the table iran contra style deal however but it would probably be impossible pull off quietly.

I thought that either Bush senior, or Bush junior did negotiate with enemies though when either one of them was president.

I have mixed feelings about this. I tend to side with Oerdin's comments however (without the politically bellicose parts, of course. ).

I think the judgement of if this is a good or bad thing will have to be left to history. It is good to know that this country is committed to "leaving no man behind."

We will see what those 5 do with their new freedom, but for now I am willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt for bringing a U.S. POW home.
