  • Bergdahl

I'm surprised there hasn't been anything on this here. I know we have veterans, future veterans, and veteran wannabes here, what do you all think? Was it worth it? Was he a deserter? Should he be court martialed, and will he? I have some problems with the timing of all this, which has cleared the VA from the front page, something Obama's surprise visit to Afghanistan didn't accomplish.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

    I. Don't. Care.

Apparently, Obama made him a deserter... he literally drove Bergdahl to the Taliban camp. Then he promptly offered America's unconditional surrender.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Mixed feelings from this vet. Never leave a man behind, but is he a deserter and is the price we paid too much for a deserter?

      ACK!
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust!

We were waiting for just the right moron to start a thread on it. Thanks!

Just think. If this were the Bush administration, the story would be "MURICA HERO FREEDOMS HIS WAY TO VICTORY"... followed by the terror alert being raised and instructions for everyone to be "vigilant".

He might be a deserter but that doesn't change much of anything. You still don't leave any man behind and if they did something wrong then you try them after you get them back home. Also, the five men traded were all older men in the Taliban government, not terrorists as the dullards are claiming, and even the Bush administration classified them as POWs not as terrorist detainees. NPR was talking about this today and they mentioned cases in both Vietnam and Korea, near the end of those wars, when we did prisoner exchanges with both the North Vietnamese and North Koreans to get our guys back including several who later were brought up on charges for things like desertion and collaborating with the enemy. The fact is you don't outsource American justice to places like Afghanistan, North Korea, or North Vietnam. You live up to the promise to get ALL your men back and then you deal with the law breakers via a trial after you get them back home.

The rest is just partisan spin and rather despicable spin at that. Sadly, the scumbags doing it are also the same ones who wrap themselves in the flag and pretend to care so much about the military and to be so patriotic. Scumbags all.

I was wondering about that. The Taliban wasn't considered a terrorist organization back then, and I'm not sure they really qualify now.

Prisoner exchanges are as old as war. It happened during the Revolutionary War.

I thought Republicans wanted to return to the way things were done.

BTW the VA under funding has been going on since at least 2002 and the same guys making such a show and dance about it now are the same guys who kept voting down the money the VA needed to handle the massively increased workload from all those wounded vets. Yes, hiding how long the waiting lists was (so that the individuals involved could qualify for bonuses and raises) was wrong and the people who did it should be fired, the leadership who some how didn't notice this or didn't ask hard questions about it need to go, but this is a massive problem which has been around for 10-12 years and what do you want to bet the same ****bags grandstanding about it will vote, yet again, not to properly fund the VA for the massive workload of wounded vets those same ****bags voted to create?

The Taliban are *******s, but they didn't fly planes into the WTC. OBL is dead ().

There's no reason for us to be there.

It's getting hard to rage at things when I don't pay attention.

Instead of reading news on the interwebs, lately I've been playing the shit out of Caesar 3... coming up with the perfect layout

I think I have OCD. But not the one where you touch every pole (lol) and boil your toothbrush. That's crazy. Sometimes microbes can survive that. EVER HEARD OF EXTEMOPHILES ? "

I've barely been paying attention to this. Every time it comes up I hear people say "bird dog" and think that Obama's trying to make a play for Hillary.

                              ...

The Republicans are on point with this. Obama will never win another election for president.
