Basically, but I'm also a Democrat because I was raised with a deep antipathy towards the Know-Nothing wing of the Republican party. I can disagree with a lot of people and still respect where they come from, but anti-immigrant horse**** from my fellow European-Americans fills me with disgust.

Thank you, I do take the cover ups seriously. A friend of mine was abused by a priest who had had previous complaints against him. My dad even raised the issue publicly back in the 80s, and got cold shouldered by a big chunk of the hierarchy. It sickens me when people, especially bishops, downplay the problems in the Church.

If you are Catholic no matter what you actually believe than how does the statement 'I am Catholic' contain anything meaningful?

Furthermore, you become Catholic when you are baptized and confirmed. If what you said was true, why does the Catholic church do these things?

I get more irritated when declarations are made and not made as personal opinions. Mostly when Ben does the Catholic thing since he's one of the worst Catholics on the planet.

So you get irritated when a fellow Catholic calls you out on your BS? The catechism is really clear on this. Manifest, grave sin is cause for excommunication. It doesn't matter if you think you are the greatest Catholic in the world, the Pope can boot you out. So can any of the bishops.
