How the hell did the guy spend four years going full time to junior college and yet still be in junior college? I'm going to guess he was a terrible student in addition to being a terrible person.
He was on Ritalin so he probably did have learning problems. I'm convinced though that mood disorders and personality disorders are commonly misdiagnosed as ADHD.

Someone has said he at Aspergers/OCD, which would help to explain why he had so many social problems, but I haven't seen this in any of the official news reports.

What is ADHD anyway? I am a little distrustful of psychiatrists...ADHD seems like something a shockingly large number of kids have and I'm not convinced it is a "real thing."

As a teacher, I'm not convinced it's anything more than an inability to sit still and be quiet for 5+ hours at school.

If this man didn't regard sex as a recreational activity and women as his sex toys, 6 people would be alive today.

The mental state where mass murder can be justified internally as a valid response to rejection is at fault here. Change the source of the rejection (and there will always be rejection in life) and the results would likely be the same.

That's if you buy his shtick. Something isn't right about the way he talks. I don't mean something isn't right psychologically ... obviously something is wrong with him ... something isn't right from the view of viewing him as psychotic or a sociopath acting on the impulses he claims. Sounds like he's acting the part, badly, trying to make up a story to cover for something else. Maybe he's just an attention whore who wanted to go out with a bang.

It most certainly is a real thing. There's a significant difference between kids who are just hyper and kids who are literally incapable of controlling themselves. The main difference (from a clinical standpoint, and also from the standpoint of, say, my ex who's an elementary school teacher) is that kids who are just hyper enjoy being hyper, whereas the kids who have ADD want desperately to be able to control their minds and bodies and are demonstrably upset with the fact that they cannot.

What has me baffled is how many kids get diagnosed with some form of it or another and subsequently get prescribed stimulants.

I'm sure there are some people (you apparently) that really do need and benefit from the drugs.

I suppose that depends on what you would define as a "real thing". There really are people who, compared to their age/gender/SES cohort, have extreme difficulty maintaining focus and controlling impulses. The problem lies in our ability to accurately identify these people.

ADHD is almost certainly both overdiagnosed AND underdiagnosed.
