  • Aside from all the specifics of the immediate case with Sterling, I think Silver, as a new commish, was inclined to go nuclear to establish his authority.
I also think this served to distance the current administration from the previous commish (David Stern), who let Sterling slide for decades without so much as a wrist-slap. In addition, it also serves notice to any other closet racists among the owners that they'd best keep their noses clean.

Finally, it's proven to be a huge PR win for the league.

    • And the story in the papers this morning of the teams that were going to boycott if this type of thing wasn't done.
Silver had to be aware of those rumors and couldn't risk an even bigger disaster.

But yes, the NBA came out looking quite good on this.

But I still think it's silly to say he can't ever attend a game when I think of Philly fans.
It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

It's just a way of establishing a zero-tolerance stance. I doubt Sterling cares, and I sincerely doubt the league will be posting his photo at the arena entrances.

        • Actually that'd be hilarious!

Which is why I think it's silly. What, the fine and making him sell the team isn't enough? NO, we won't let you into a game.

              • Sterling is a stubborn vindictive man. I predict he will tie up any forced sale with legal challenges until he dies.

He is very suited for running KKK franchises.
It's bad for moral for all the players in league, not just the clippers and it would be bad for business for all the owners in the league not just the clippers. We the people have a voice but not the authority to make a decision on sterling. The league has ultimately came too the conclusion that it was in their best interests to get rid of him.
So the precedent as always has been what's good for business and sterling is now bad for business.
As far as the money goes, sterling is financially at the point were it's easier to hurt his ego/pride than it is too hurt him financially. That ban hurts a lot. From reading his comments, he took a lot of pride in owning that franchise.
Didnt take any pride in running it.

Why would he want to watch games when he has to see black people in them?

                    • Because, when it's the Clippers, he can act like he owns them.

There must be some serious irony that this is the owner of the Clippers.

In the standings of petty and vindictive. I also don't see how it matters that most of his team is black. I don't see why white people aren't also offended by racist comments.
