John Paul II has been dead less than ten years; what's the rush? And how did he get to the front of the line? Also, I want details of the miracles these men performed. We should have pretty good documentation in this day and age, yet the church seems notably silent on the topic.

It's really not that much of a concern. The miracles were there and they were very fast, compared with many other saints. The Miracles were there, there's really nothing to keep JPII out once there were two miracles that were well documented.

Have standards been lowered? And as a consequence, are the "not quite so saintly" sneaking in?

Nobody questioned Maddux getting into the hall of fame. JPII is the Greg Maddux of beatification. If you look at the list of Saints, Pope John Paul II deserved to get in.

Given that I'm a JPII Catholic? I love the man, even before I became Catholic. I've just been busy is all. Thanks for the thread. I hope I managed to successfully answer your questions.

No. I have a rule. More than one post? I don't look.

I have a strong suspicion that Pope John Paul II getting "fast tracked" was done so he could put in on the same day as Pope John XXIII, so Pope Francis wouldn't here even more *****ing from traditionalists that he was being all progressive and then canonizing a progressive pope. He could put their beloved JPII in as well avoiding that sort of thing - and it seemed that he has (aside from a few quarters).

Uh, there's been no bellyaching about either in my quarters. JPII was put in now because he met all the qualifications for sainthood. Why wait? Is he going to become more saint worthy now that he's dead? He meets the standards for canonization.

The only one there was concern over was John XXIII, who had the one confirmed miracle, but not the second. And again the magisterium isn't bound to wait for a second one. It's just a general custom.

It's sickening. I heard last night that the most recent report said that in the last decade 3,500 priests were confirmed to have been perpetrators of child molestation/abuse/rape.

There are 41,406 priests in the RCC according to Wiki.

Nearly 10%... confirmed... just think of how many don't get caught!

That's absolutely sickening.

The whole organization should be treated like a criminal enterprise... BECAUSE IT IS

I mean, what if 10% of imams and mullahs were confirmed terrorists... as in, they actually carried our a terrorist attack... how would Islam be treated in the US? (hint, concentration camps)

And then the apologists for child rape act as if they are the victims.
