No way in hell I'm going to read all the way through this thread, but my initial reaction to the title is that there are three possibilities:
1. A very expansive definition of rape is being used
2. Some other very expansive term, like "sexual assault," which in some cases may refer to having your ass grabbed on the subway, was used by the president and this somehow transformed into "rape" in someone's head
3. Bull**** data

Possibly it was some combination of the three.

i read an article a while ago about generating a 'culture of consent' (i would presume as an opposite to a so-called "rape culture"). i scoffed at it at for a while, until i realized the article had a rather salient point. the article was written from the perspective of a woman, and she was dancing with a man, and getting carried away by the dance and the music and what have you. the dude eventually said "I want to kiss you." and then... stuff happened. i don't really remember. the point is that merely announcing what you want: i.e. a Kiss isn't really that big of a deal once you dispense with some of the more archaic gender roles; as opposed to just going in for the kiss.

what difference is there saying "can i kiss you?" and "I want to kiss you," at the end of a date?

I'm not so old that I didn't experience when women were being treated as inferior to men. Where women in the workplace were mostly secretaries, nurses or clerks.

The consent on a first date kiss is an interesting point of discussion. Back when I started dating, you would never have considered asking, but now I can see some issues with it no matter how strange it would feel to me.

It is a good example of the power that men had over women. The younger generations shouldn't forget that it wasn't so long ago.
