I would like to say that Europeans are generally more accepting of Constitutional Monarchy than non-Europeans. I'm not sure if that's necessarily a Catholic thing. After all, the British, Swedes, Danes, etc. all have their monarchies.

I would say that most Europeans don't care either way, the places that still have monarchies they are politically irrelevant and powerless figureheads so it's not an important issue.

I would go so far to argue that certain perceived 'absolutist governments', behaved in a more responsible fashion than the present administration. Sure, they haven't yet gone as far as some governments, but my goodness - when you have a president writing that, "certain tenets of the faith no longer count as Catholicism?" that is a tremendous attack on religious freedom.

Ben makes repeated and vitriolic statements about gays despite the current popes assertion that a focus on such things harms the churchs mission. More strikingly, he endlessly uses his faith to be a nasty, repulsive peice of **** who appalls pretty much everyone who ends up in discussion with him. Ben is the poster who has probably turned more people off religion than any other. As an athiest that should probably make me happy, but it actually just makes me feel quite sad, mostly for Ben.

I don't see that connection. The Catholic church as a whole is fair game. Just because I think religion is a private mater doesn't mean I can't say how the church handled their pedophile priests was bad. Or I don't agree how they treat women in general.
