They've already announced the guy will be back for the new season so, yeah, it really does seem like a publicity stunt.

      Oh holy ****ing ****, really?

While I do not agree with his line of thinking, I certainly support his right to think it and I support his right to say that which he believes. He is not, as far as I have seen, guilty of any discrimination based on his thinking. He did not speak to his beliefs on his job.
All of this is 100% accurate.

It is hard to believe that any freedom loving person would want to punish someone merely for what they think.
It is not what he THINKS. It is what he SAYS to a MAJOR MAGAZINE, and how it reflects on his EMPLOYER.

There is no crime here. No one is restricting his freedom of speech.

Freedom of speech means freedom from GOVERNMENT, not PRIVATE ENTERPRISE.

Rated 65% on Rotten Tomatoes. I liked it though.

I trust your judgment. Hopefully it'll be on Netflix soon.

Your question implied that you disliked the 1st movie. I actually liked the 1st Thor movie. Granted mainly due to the portrayal of Loki. The 2nd movie was not a huge departure from the 1st movie. It did improve on it in some areas though.

Maybe I misunderstood you? You weren't saying that it was his non-conformity of thought that got him suspended?

All of this is 100% accurate.

Not sure how his personal beliefs reflect on his employer...unless it reveals them for hiring a Louisiana redneck? Oh wait...the show is about Louisiana rednecks. How does this reflect on his employer again?

There is no crime here. No one is restricting his freedom of speech.
Agreed that there is no crime, but then that really isn't what crimethink is about, is it? And yes, A&E is attempting to restrict his freedom of speech through intimidation...clearly.

Freedom of speech means freedom from GOVERNMENT, not PRIVATE ENTERPRISE.
Hard to argue against you when you are quite correct, however Freedom of religion and religious thought is protected BY the government...supposedly.

                        Jesus tap dancing Christ.
                        Perhaps a mild sedative?

We really aren't that far apart really. If A&E had been damaged by his remarks, then I would be okay with suspending or canning him. The point is that they took action simply because he was not "politically correct". As we have seen in some posts, the advertisers are not going to bail...and I doubt that the audience that watches the show would do anything more than become more loyal to him for his remarks. It simply reduces to trying to mandate how an individual should think as a condition of employment...and that is wrong from almost any perspective.
"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003

I didn't love the 1st, but I did enjoy it, mostly due to Loki.

                              HOLY ****BALLS.

A&E can not restrict his freedom of speech. Literally. They are INCAPABLE OF DOING SO. Can A&E throw him in prison? No? THEN THEY CAN'T RESTRICT HIS FREEDOM OF SPEECH. He continue to say whatever the **** he wants all the live-long day.

But doing so has consequences, consequences which have sweet-****-all to do with restricting his freedom of speech.

                              Mon Dieu.

!!!!?!?!?! The **** you talking about here? How is his freedom of religion threatened here?

NONE OF THIS IS A CONSTITUTIONAL ISSUE.

                              • I should say that I get this worked up about this particular aspect because erroneously arguing that capital-C capital-R Constitutional Rights have been violated in this or similar cases trivializes actual violations of Constitutional Rights, which are gonna on willy-nilly all the goddamned time, and few people seem to give a ****.
