  • Dear god.. Then again Caroline whatshername seemed like a decent sort. They're still a bit barking mad though.

    • Yeah, but apparently I agree with most of their policies. So I guess they are economically left wing and not authoritarian.

      • you think a style of governance from 500 years ago (that has long since been superceded) is a model for modern America? Beautiful.
It's how Westminster works, Kentonio. If supply fails you get new elections. You were called out on this once already. This would never have happened in the UK - because when Supply failed back in 2009 - there would have been fresh elections.

Yeah, a bit too far left for my tastes, but I can understand the appeal. I still think we need a right wing party at the current time to make up for the decade + of left wing excesses, but the current Tories are just maddening me. Everything they do just seems to be clad in this public schoolboy vibe with no understanding of how normal people live and with a 'if it doesn't work and lots of people get ****ed, we'll just fix it later' attitude.

Plus Jeremy Hunt needs a punch in the face.

            • The left wing excess thing is bit of a a myth though. In 1997 the total debt was 42% of GDP, wasn't seen as a big deal, in 2008 it was 35% but somehow it was now panic stations?

And the evidence seems to be that the cuts have slowed growth, I think it's still a better idea to shrink the debt percentage by growing the economy not by trying to repay and shrinking it.

              • This lot just continue to be utterly terrible at politics. The David Cameron austerity speech in white tie next to a golden throne, was just ridiculous. It's basically slightly too unbelievable to be in The Thick of It.

Except that it doesn't you disingenuous dumb ****e, that phraseology was reserved for the fictional house bill not Landrieus Senate bill.
House Democratic leaders also plan to offer a bill Friday that mirrors and supports Obama's proposal.
(Otherwise she wouldn't be continuing to press her bill forward in the senate and simply rely on an executive decree.) God you really are Kenobi light.

I'm not talking about debt as such (although there's a definite argument that we could have gotten rid of most of the debt in the good times rather than just spending tons more), and to be fair the NHS needed more money and I'm very glad it got it. Labour did have a nasty habit though of setting in motion stupid utopian visions like that bull**** about getting 50% of kids into university.

I would like a Dem leader to go tell the skittish Dems to go **** themselves, it's too late to back away now.
Can't do that. They were able to pull that off once by passing this god awful steaming pile of crap with assurances that the blowback in 2010 wouldn't happen. Those in competitve districts know all too well Dem leadership doesn't give two ****es for them and are scrambling like rats on a sinking ship to save their own skins.

It's well past too late for them to do anything now. Perhaps they should have read the law first because they are on Barrak's Mystery tour for the duration for good or ill.
