  • I think you're missing something critical here, which is that simply by having an undergrad degree you are ahead of 70% of the United States (in theory) so whining about "being poor" because that investment banker job paying the big bucks didn't ****ing land in your lap makes me angry. There used to be a day and age in this country when having any kind of bachelor's degree made you employable. That was back when not many people had college degrees. Those days are over, because people can and do go to college on federally guaranteed loans and so the fact that you managed to complete a four year degree means jack ****, what they care about now is what you did while you were in college.

Insurance companies have to insure manchildren up to age 26 now on their parents' plans. College graduates are asking for "loan forgiveness" because they were dumb and can't pay their debts. People left and right are feeling entitled to do less and less for themselves. Liberals think that the government should take care of you from cradle to grave, from public day care to public education to public employment to public medical care and public retiree homes. It's infuriating. Take care of yourself. Be responsible for yourself. Don't ask me to spoonfeed you, cause I'm gonna jam the spoon down your throat.

To add insult to injury, they want us to ****ing PAY the government to treat us all like children. No thank you!

Yes, because it's false and they are immature whiners.

              • And I'm telling you, as someone who takes care of themselves, your entire philosophical outrage at this strawman you've created is mind boggling stupid. People are mad at investment bankers because they do everything in their power to subvert the rules that we've placed on them and we feel completely disconnected from them socially, financially, philosophically. You dont get that. This isnt just about disparity of income, its about people with the means to isolate themselves from society, doing so, while burning any tangential relation they have to the world and making it worse off for everyone, poors especially. And then blaming everyone else for problems like "Oh no it wasnt our fault, it was all those poors buying houses. We only underwrote everything and sold it off to those rubes with less acumen than us, but still it was the poors."

The resentment is festering because of people like you who believe in perfect meritocracies and dont believe in taking care of anyone else, even in the most basic ways.

Their low income is already observable punishment enough.

                  • MRT I think it was the government that encouraged bad house loans. The banks sure didn't benefit.

This is precisely the punishment I am advocating, no more or less.

                        • I don't believe in a perfect meritocracy. I believe in man the **** up and suck it up. Nobody ever got ahead by *****ing and I don't want to ****ing hear it. That picture in the OP is from rich ****s with PhDs whining about being poor and eating ramen because they've made the phenomenally poor choice of becoming a career student. (Also if you're eating ramen it's probably because you lack basic life skills, I can prepare tastier more nutritious meals for far less and do so regularly by doing some actual cooking, but I digress)

Oh and thanks for bringing up another group of people I have zero sympathy for: people who bought houses they can't afford and find themselves now underwater on their mortgages. Bankruptcy teaches a hell of a lesson (I hope).

But you're also firmly against any possible way of mitigating that punishment because that just wouldnt subvert the way the world should be, according to you.

                            • Exactly!

(Rather, it would subvert the way the world should be, but I'm going to assume that was a typo)
