You can stop making assumptions whenever you like. The reductio ad absurdam of what Lori said is still completely absurd. If we believe what he actually said, then voting should be an internet poll where just have to sign up for a Reddit account first. That'd be the least burdensome polling method.

By the way, I'm extremely sympathetic to the residents of the sticks being annoyed at a bunch of 20something college students who are only part-time residents being allowed to decide their politics for them. If there were a rule saying that you couldn't change your voting residence to NC unless you lived there year round, I would consider that reasonable. Moving the polling booth is a bit of an underhanded and stupid way to get that result.

Literally, the only thing you've ever talked about in regards to voting is voter fraud. It is the only thing I can recall you care about. Why wouldnt I guess you support draconian measures on your pet political issue.

I'll stop being hyperbolic when you stop being myopic.

The sign up procedure for Reddit is too cumbersome and further with known NSA spying activity my vote is not secure. I claim my voting rights are infrigned damn it!!!!

I'm sorry, what else is there to talk about in terms of voting? We have universal suffrage. The only extant voting issue is that of voter ID laws, which I find perfectly reasonable even if (and I've never really investigated it, so I won't assume one way or another if the evidence is there or not) there is no evidence of actual fraud.

I'm not sure why you want to prevent non-Internet users from voting.

Thats on the other side of the state. I dont think anyone is denying black people would possibly be affected by this.

My bad, I was thinking about the first part of the article about Elizabeth City State University. My apologies.

Access is important, and one of the ways in the Jim Crow era they kept black people from voting. Realistically it is hard to do this properly; imagine this situation:

State finds it is underfunded and has to close 5 polling locations (take this decision as given and not intended to bias results).
Democrat controlled state house creates panel to decide which ones to close. They look at 15 polling locations, 8 in democrat areas, 7 in republican areas. All 15 are similar - there is another location a few miles away in each case.
4 republican and 1 democrat polling locations end up being closed.

Is anyone surprised by these results? I wouldn't think so. And perhaps they won't bias the results too much; but they undoubtedly would have some effect. Causing republicans to have to walk an extra mile to vote will make a difference in the polling results, exogenous of the "people ought to vote it is their civic responsiwhatever" argument; a few people making the "this costs me time/money" decision will not vote now that would've voted before.

I don't know that you can say anything specifically about the particular cases shown here without knowing the full state map and other factors we don't know about. Perhaps the ASU polling location was basically extraneous, and really would be the right one to close. Any closed polling location you could imagine the reasons for closing, and show that it has disparate effects on different groups. But certainly it's possible this had political motivations, if not probable.

They already kind of do oversee our elections. We vote by mail.
It's got nothing to do with 'voter suppression' and 'access', but everything to do with them 'voting the wrong way'.

No seriously. Aside from old racist white people and young sexually frustrated virgin dorm-room guys, who is going to vote republican?

Nobody. In 50 years, the GOP will be taught to children as a failed party, just like the whigs.

At the very least sending over 9000 people to a voting station with extremely limited access which is intended to cater for under 2000, is incredibly poor planning and worthy of investigation on the grounds of incompetence if nothing else.
