Then why don't you STFU, since you have absolutely no horse in this race? Practicing being "facetious" is a late cop out, besides.

Just like you'd never interfere with the right of a man to own a slave, right, Mr. Fun? Some 'rights' are wrongs.2) I would not want to deny women their right to make their own health decisions just to obtain some kind of advantage.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

So I'm dumb for thinking that this:BK is a dumb**** for thinking killing babies is the same thing as abortions.

Is a baby?

I would like to contribute this to the discussion: it should be "if abortion were to be made illegal." The subjunctive mood is an endangered species and needs to be protected. Also, to hell with this discussion, it's not gonna go anywhere it hasn't gone the last eighty times we/you had it.

If only we just killed all the filthy republicans than this issue would be settled. If they stop trying to strip women of their rights, then there would be no need to keep talking about it.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

I blame the Court for needlessly inflaming an issue that had been headed for consensus before Roe.Originally posted by kentonio View PostIt's still an issue that continues to be discussed because ******* Republicans are obsessed with trying to ban it. How has the Court been needlessly inflaming the issue?“As a lifelong member of the Columbia Business School community, I adhere to the principles of truth, integrity, and respect. I will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do.”

We do need to have a discussion about abortion in this country; however, that discussion will not take place on Poly, nor will it take the form of a shouting match between the Baby-Killers and the Oppressive Patriarchy. At least, not if we expect anything to come of it. We can but hope that there will (eventually) come a day when we sit down, discuss things rationally, and come to a mutually acceptable compromise like adults. The status quo isn't terribly attractive to either side.Originally posted by kentonio View PostIt's still an issue that continues to be discussed because ******* Republicans are obsessed with trying to ban it. What exactly would you view as an 'acceptable compromise' on this issue?mutually acceptable compromise like adults.Scouse Git (2) La Fayette Adam Smith Solomwi and Loinburger will not be forgotten.

At this point, almost anything that actually made the slightest bit of difference. It's the nature of compromise to be less-than-ideal. But if we could ban that **** from, say, the second trimester onwards, do something to reduce the demand for it (e.g., sex ed that doesn't tell students SEX WILL MAKE YOUR PENIS FALL OFF, EVEN WITH CONDOMS), and get the government funding women's health initiatives through a middleman other than the nation's biggest abortion provider...I would consider that a definite improvement. Right now we're too polarized to move an inch, even though most of us do not actually want it to be legal to snuff a kid for non-emergency reasons two days before her due date.Originally posted by Ben Kenobi View PostWhat exactly would you view as an 'acceptable compromise' on this issue?
That Gosnell monster got away with it for so long in part because state regulators were too gun-shy to actually regulate. They were afraid to be seen as "oppressing women," so someone up the political totem pole declared a laissez-faire policy. And they were gun-shy in part because, at present, most of our "victories" take the form of onerous regulations designed to make clinics unprofitable. And of course there's a reason for that in turn, namely SCOTUS won't let us do anything more direct. And so on. It's just a convoluted ball of unworkable paranoia and hate, and it leaves us at an impasse. If nothing else, we could stand to be more honest.
