A vigilante wasn't playing John Wayne, he was patrolling his neighborhood calling the cops when he saw something suspicious. Then he probably got attacked and defended himself with a gun when no other option was available.

Yeah sure, because this 17 year old kid had a long record of attempting to kill people on the street. You'd have thought he'd have been packing an illegal weapon given what a huge danger to society he apparently was.

I'm a bit curious - does the "stand your ground" law only apply to using a gun ?

I mean, is it illegal for a person scared to hell by a lunatic waving a gun to try to protect himself with his hands ? Of course including banging the crazy gunmans head into concrete.

Stand your Ground was a law supported by the gun lobby so I guess not?

Generally self- defense is an affirmative defense, meaning that the burden of proof is usually on the defendant. Which means that this claim is untrue; the jury found that the preponderance of evidence was on the side of self-defense.

Not in Florida, dip****. In fact, that preponderance of evidence standard is only in effect in Ohio.

The Zimmerman jury didn't need to find preponderance of evidence that Zimmerman acted in self defense. Once the defense suggested some the judge reasonable evidence for self defense (which they did), the jury had a much different standard - they had to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that it wasn't self defense. Much easier for the defense. Florida
