  • You haven't been paying attention at all, have you?

    Not just this case.

    Reality.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

    • This isn't a computer game. Initiative and aggressiveness counts for a lot more than size.

Also, as has gone over many times, what Zimmerman did in getting out of his vehicle was not criminal. It was stupid.

Excepting that the 911 transcript and recording indicates he didn't. In fact he acknowledges the 911 dispatchers advice and says OK and the wind noise and rest of the call indicates no particular haste or chase thus his assent to the dispatchers advice. His efforts outside the vehicle from thereon (as evidenced by the 911 call) were to give his exact location to the incoming officers.

Time 2:07 Zimmerman “Sh**. He’s running”.

Zimmerman gets out of the truck immediately on saying "He's running."
Time 2:09 A mechanical sound. (Maybe the door latch. Maybe releasing seat belt.)

Dispatcher: He's running? Which way is he running?
Time 2:10 (Tone, which seems to be the usual warning chirp when a door opens)

Zimmerman: Down towards the other entrance to the neighborhood.

Time 2:14 (Sound like the door slamming shut)

Dispatcher: OK. Which entrance is that that he's heading towards?

Time 2:15 (Sound that could be door lock operating or him brushing against the truck)

        Zimmerman: The back entrance

Time 2:20 (a pattern of regular rustling/wind noises starting)

Time 2:22 Zimmerman: F***ing ****s (Punks according to Zimmerman Coons according to CNN later retracted)

Time 2:23 Dispatcher: Are you following him? (Dispatcher interprets the background noises as Zimmerman running.)

        Zimmerman: Yeah.

Dispatcher: Ok, we don't need you to do that.

        Time 2:28 Zimmerman: Ok.

Time 2:34 Dispatcher: Alright sir what is your name?

        Zimmerman: George…He ran.

Time 2:42 (The background wind/movement noises die down)
Dispatcher: Alright George what's your last name? (A clicking or knocking sound can be heard)

        Zimmerman: Zimmerman

Your thought process makes you an idiot.
I would take one armed Zimmerman over one hundred unarmed idiots like you.

For months the tv, news and internet (including this site) and been full of people calling Martin every name under the sun, because he had a few minor charges on his record and because he talked ghetto. Those things were enough to make a lot of people decide he didn't deserve to live any more. Well fair enough, if we're going to start handing out death sentences because teenagers leave stupid crap on their social media pages and get into trouble now and again, then there's going to be a lot of free space in high schools.
What I don't get is Zimmerman didn't know about any of those things when he decided to murder Travon Martin so why should they matter? People were just latching on to outside garbage ("he said he smoked pot!") which wasn't even germain to Zimmerman's decision to chase the guy for now reason, to start a fight, and then ultimately to murder him. It seems to me people wanted a particular outcome and they were latching on to irrelevant outside info which Zimmerman couldn't have possibly known when he decided to murder that poor young boy.

Liar, I heard that tape so, no, your bull**** claim doesn't fly. It was obvious that the Police 911 dispatcher told him not to follow and yet Zimmerman ran after him making the resulting incident 100% entirely his fault. No amount of lying or spinning on your part is going to change that fact.

                    • A comment from a friend I went to high school with:

It seems to me that everyone saying "Justice for Trayvon" means "Vengeance and conviction despite a fair trial and airing of all available evidence against the accused which failed to prove murder or even manslaughter". Every time a bandwagon issue like this comes up, it makes me ashamed to call myself a liberal.

I agree completely. The politicization of this case, on both sides, is absurd. It's a criminal case involving a single incident and the scope of what the jurors analysed was limited to the evidence with judgment constrained by reasonable doubt. Sure, it has other implications but one trial is one trial; not the nexus of gun rights, self defense, race, oppression and governmental acquiescence to prejudice or whatever else everyone is ascribing to this case. Also, the support for either side follows such obtuse political divisions that demonstrate politically-charged groupthink. Nothing, especially a criminal case involving a claim of self-defense, is so black and white to justify the attitudes and perceptions people have about this case.

Reality is a beautiful thing, experience it one day, please.

A key moment in George Zimmerman's cellphone call to the Police Department in Sanford, Fla., on the fateful night of Feb. 26 occurs at 7:11:41 p.m., a little more than two minutes into a call that lasts about four minutes.

"He's running," says Zimmerman, referring to the "real suspicious guy" he'd called in to report. Almost immediately you hear on the recording a car door opening and what sounds like a warning beep indicating the key is still in the ignition. Shortly thereafter comes the unmistakable sound of wind blowing into a phone mouthpiece.
In other words he was pursuing Martin before any dispatcher advice to the contrary.

Zimmerman is in pursuit! And we all know the outcome: Zimmerman, 28, ultimately shot and killed the unarmed Martin, 17, touching off a national controversy about race, justice and firearms.

But what's often overlooked in all the heated conversations about this tragedy is the actual timeline based on police documents, a timeline that culminated at 7:16:56 p.m., more than five minutes later, with the sound of a single gunshot in the background of a 911 emergency call.

There's much we still don't know about what happened in those five minutes, but we do know it was five minutes — some 90 seconds longer than in many earlier news accounts that misstated the starting time of Zimmerman's call.

And we do know that maps of the area show that Martin was only about 180 yards from home when Zimmerman told police he saw him running in that direction.

"Are you following him?" asks the police dispatcher at 7:11:56 p.m., evidently picking up on the wind noise and Zimmerman's slightly labored breathing. "We don't need you to do that."

"OK," says Zimmerman at 7:12:02 p.m.

Online, the audio of this call has become to the killing of Trayvon Martin what the Zapruder film was to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy — a fragmentary record subjected to endless close analysis by those looking for clues or support for their theories.

Does Zimmerman break off the chase?

By 7:12:15 p.m., the wind noises have stopped and his breathing has returned to normal as he discusses with the police dispatcher where responding officers should meet him. At 7:13:12 p.m. he interjects, "I don't know where this kid is."

In other words he complied with the dispatchers advice.

Neighborhood watch types, they're typically trained to pursue on foot when they suspect someone has a gun, right? And of course, upon being reminded by 911 that he was being a dumbass, he immediately hoofed it back to the safety of his car?

I'll just say I eagerly await the wrongful death suit and leave it at that.

This happens a lot more than you'd think. When blacks do it to each other you don't seem to care though, even though they usually aren't even investigated in a lot of cases. It is only when fat ugly Hispanics get roughed up and shoot back. Weird.
