Nando's is a chain from South Africa though they do have a few locations on the US east coast.

      • There's one in downtown DC as well, but I'd have to go downtown

There aren't enough thumbs-down in the world for this.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am.

"Texan" food is just a mix of sub-par Southern food and sub-par Mexican food. There's better chili (and BBQ) in the rest of the US.

            • Almost all of the examples I can think of (i.e., distinctively American dishes) are from the South. BBQ, gumbo, jambalaya, greens, biscuits and gravy, fried chicken, and the like.
So the only authentic 'American' food is southern. You don't say.

I'm sure growing up in Iowa makes you think so.

Why? I enjoyed Chez Panisse though it was really expensive for what you get I had to go there at least once because it was so famous and really did change fine dining in America. I tried to get a seat in the French Laundry too but they were booked up when I was there.

                  • I have never heard of anyone making mac and cheese themselves, but I personally am fond of the packaged stuff.
It's not very hard - and I was always fond of the mac noodles with spaghetti toppings. Cheap, quick to make and delicious (and easier than spaghetti for that matter).

I'm not surprised. You also love Domino's and something else crappy that I can't remember off the top of my head.

You do like Dinosaur BBQ, however, so you're not all wrong.

                        • And for the record, Alice Waters is the worst kind of privileged foodie snob. It's no surprise that a pretentious and brainless hipster like Oerdin would defend her.

Nah, more of a Papa John's guy. Dominoes is not preferred.

                            Dinosaur BBQ is The Shit.

Agreed. Way better than any BBQ you'll find in Texas.

                              • Incidentally, they have really good chili too--you can actually buy it packaged at the grocery stores around here, I have some in my fridge.
