Ok, I'll read down like a page.

Gosh, it's almost like I'm familiar with it.
No. You've only convinced me further not to be Catholic. That's an incredibly stupid interpretaion of the Bible.

Nope, I'm saying you're full of **** if you claim there is actual evidence, beyond mere belief in the contents of a book, that Jesus Christ even existed as one person. Jesus Christ is on the same evidentiary footing as Horatus Cocles and Gaius Mucius Scaevola, or for that matter, Hector and Achilles.

      • Funny though, if that's how it works in the Catholic church, those diocesan tribunals find quite a few other ways to grant annulments.
All an annulment states is that there was never any valid marriage in the first place.

Given manuscript quality, if one were to evaluate the strength of actual documentary evidence - if Jesus *didn't* exist, then neither did any of the other historical figures that have come down to us from Late Antiquity.

You are ridiculous, there is more reason to believe that Jesus Christ was a person then to believe that Cato the Elder was one (or Brutus).

You don't have to believe any of the super natural claims, but to think that he was made up in total and documented to have been believed to exist by enemies and followers alike within a few years of his death is frankly insane.

Tell you what, Sava. I'll put it up. If you can prove to me that Jesus Christ being the Son of God is demonstrably false, I will stop being a Christian.
The onus is on you to prove his existence... not the other way around.

You aren't a Christian now... how can you stop being one?

                          • I still wonder why BK is hell bent on prooving Jesus was divine.

Maybe he should more focus on the message rather than the form? Or is BK too stupid for that ?

You asked how the state benefits, it benefits by garnering respect of taxpaying citizens who support the notion of equality before the law... I'm no historian but I suspect a link between states collapsing into chaos or tyranny and the unequal treatment of the people. Some states would even slaughter youngsters among the disgruntled populations to reduce the threat.

Hmm... I didn't connect those dots. But was Jesus endorsing the punishment? Or was he disgusted with how many men would dump their wives, maybe for a young hottie?

Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.
Sounds like a commentary about divorce. But if Jesus does allow divorce for "valid" reasons did he contradict himself.

I used "punishment" for one, lack of a better word, and two, so that BK might understand it (relating to his one doctrinal beliefs). The Book of Genesis is a description of the way that God created the world, and the nature of human beings. I don't actually believe in Original Sin and The Fall. Why did Jesus say it's OK to get a divorce? Because he was justifying leaving the Jewish religion. It wasn't so that paganistic christians could justify divorce or preventing others from getting married. Jesus was saying it's OK to stop following your religious leaders if they are unfaithful.

There's a lot of irony in the Creation Story. God uses irony in the Bible. That's what a lot of people call contradictions.

edit: Also see BK's bad interpretation of the Wedding in Cana for something similar.
