Child rapists are worthy of death. If it was up to me, slow and painful. Any individual or institution, whether it's Penn State University, or a specific Catholic parish or diocese, or any other form of institution, which enables child rape, facilitates it, fails to report to proper authorities and follow up to see that action is taken, is worth of contempt and civil and criminal sanction, and the individuals within those institutions should be prosecuted as accessories to the fullest extent of the law. The Catholic church has shown, in diocese after diocese and at levels up to cardinalates, an appalling self-righteousness and amoral cowardice on this issue for years. 15 years ago, it was, once it was finally dragged out into the light, either "a disputed incident" but (we'll settle to avoid the cost of frivolous litigation, or "an isolated incident" (with a rationalization about why we couldn't do anything or we didn't know or etc.) As these cases were dragged into the light by force until the "isolated incidents becaome a flood in diocese after diocese, then the church had to oh-so-reluctantly start singing a different tune once they figured transfers to different parishes and sweeping incidents under the rug wasn't really the appropriate response. Took only a few decades and how many thousand victims to figure that out? Right now, the Catholic church as an institution sits as the biggest enable of child sexual abuse in modern times, perhaps in all time. A lot of the leadership better hope their professed afterlife beliefs are so much BS, because if not, they'll have a hell of a long time to consider their cowardice and depravity.
