I find your refusal to include the role of slavery in motivating the Texan Revolt disturbing. Even if US sources now down play slavery it must be obvious that the inclusion of the ‘right’ to own slaves in the first Texan constitution along with the expulsion of all free Africans does imply that the Anglos who revolted against Mexico, and amongst whom the slave-owners mainly were, thought the matter important. Without a reference to the role of slavery this article cannot be considered balance or even truthful. The article on Mexican Texas is far more reliable, balanced and truthful.

It looks like the article downplays discussion on slavery in part because the editors think that the article on Mexican Texas already covers the topic well enough.

Texas formally declared independence at Washington-on-the-Brazos on March 2, 1836. The revolt was justified as necessary to protect basic rights and because Mexico had annulled the federal pact. The colonists maintained that Mexico had invited them to move to the country and they were determined "to enjoy 'the republican institutions to which they were accustomed in their native land, the United States of America.'" The declaration did not acknowledge that Mexico had attempted to incorporate some of their demands. The new Texas constitution specifically allowed slavery and said no free person of African descent could reside in the new country without Congress's consent. Many of the Tejanos left the fight after the declaration of independence as they were disappointed with the growing anti-Mexican rhetoric. Only Seguin's company remained in the Texian Army.

As opposed to dying for nothing and no purpose whatsoever? We are all going to die. Some men and women choose to put their ass on the line to protect others who cannot. That is an honorable sacrifice - and Christ talks about this - that the greatest thing one can do is to lay one's life down for one's friends.

The trigger for Texas independence was Santa Anna tearing up the 1824 Mexican Constitution.
