Without a reference to the role of slavery this article cannot be considered balance or even truthful. The article on Mexican Texas is far more reliable, balanced and truthful.
It looks like the article downplays discussion on slavery in part because the editors think that the article on Mexican Texas already covers the topic well enough.

The colonists maintained that Mexico had invited them to move to the country and they were determined "to enjoy 'the republican institutions to which they were accustomed in their native land, the United States of America.'" The declaration did not acknowledge that Mexico had attempted to incorporate some of their demands. The new Texas constitution specifically allowed slavery and said no free person of African descent could reside in the new country without Congress's consent. Many of the Tejanos left the fight after the declaration of independence as they were disappointed with the growing anti-Mexican rhetoric. Only Seguin's company remained in the Texian Army.

How convenient... er I mean sad... that you'll have to leave the gloriously dying to others.

If their rules bar me from participating, then there's not much I can do about it can I? That's why soldiers fight - to protect the folks who can't.

Sure, but when it's not your ass on the line you might want to STFU about how 'glorious' getting a bullet in your face or your limbs ripped off by shrapnel can be.

As opposed to dying for nothing and no purpose whatsoever? We are all going to die. Some men and women choose to put their ass on the line to protect others who cannot. That is an honorable sacrifice - and Christ talks about this - that the greatest thing one can do is to lay one's life down for one's friends.

I'm not so certain that Christ would have approved of people dying gloriously to own slaves.

                            Neither are you McBraniac.

                            From wiki:

The role of slavery is still debated immensely as the contemporary primary sources of the era do not mention it usually, unlike the primary sources of The Civil War. Only a handful of primary sources mentioning slavery as a cause have been found, with the vast majority of primary sources attributing the revolt to other causes[15] Slavery is not mentioned as a motivation for independence in Texas' Declaration of Independence.
"I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration somehow you're not patriotic. We should stand up and say we are Americans and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration." - Hillary Clinton, 2003

He's got a history degree Plato. Mr. Fun's allowed to lie to further the cause of progressivism.

The trigger for Texas independence was Santa Anna tearing up the 1824 Mexican Constitution.
