It's quite simple - to Protestants, deeds are the offshoots of faith. They come from faith and therefore those who do not perform deeds likely don't really have the transformative faith in Jesus Christ.
Furthermore, sola fide is justification by faith. This does not mean or preclude that God will look at works during His judgement (just that it shall not be something that is taken into account for justification).
