The local and state cops wouldn't even bother enforcing federal gun laws. Monroe County Sheriff's Office, the local police agency where I live, wouldn't give half a ****, and it wouldn't be required to either. And yes, our police are well-organized, but we have a fundamentally larger crime problem here than Europe does. As I said before, we have more issues with inner city gangs and drug abuse. Probably because of proximity to large drug sources. You have to cross a ****ing ocean to get crack to wherever the hell you are.

US is suprisingly low in the charts, 19th on CIA list, just above Ireland (in the middle of a crisis itself) and below Belgium! of all places I guess that is the effect of low dollar, but still interesting given the historical trends for US to be near the top of the charts there due to the whole IT, financial, energy and military center of the world thing.

Mexico is really low, even though I thought it would be higer, lower than Croatia even, and quite substantially so.

Don't be an idiot. I know many gun owners. Virtually none of them feel the "need" to own a gun, for them, it's simply a hobby to go hunting or target shooting. It has nothing to do with a desire for violence or the bravado associated with having a firearm. It's just about simply enjoying a sport. Of the ones I know that feel the need to own a gun, most are women who think they need it to protect themselves from things like rape.

I know a few gun owners and I don't trust them based on the fact they own a ****ing gun. It's a litmus test on whether you're a good person or not. Good people, in general, don't own weapons of any kind (unless you're running a weapons museum.) Owning a weapon says something about the kind of person you are (read that as a weak and scared person).

Also, using a gun to protect against stranger rape is one of the more fascinating things I've heard. Use that **** on your ****bird husband who is trying to rape you, the far more likely scenario for rape.
