I may have missed it, but I don't think anyone has properly thanked MRT for bringing up this historical artifact. Thanks ever so much.

I just want to take a brief moment to enjoy the irony of this post coming from the same person who just a month ago was defending US attacks on civilians in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, and defending the use of things like Agent Orange and napalm...

        ..

No hold on, it's still just too delicious...

        ..

        Ok, I'm sated.

How would you know? In the world outside Ben-ville it's actually possible to be a strong supporter of something without just rubber stamping everything they do. If you understood this you'd spend a bit less time trying to justify past Catholic atrocities and possibly actually become a semi-decent human being.

When can we expect the next thread from you in praise of Bomber Harris? Or the Luftwaffe's actions during the Blitz?

I believe I've attacked Harris on numerous occasions right here.

Given the thumbs up you've given to General Sherman here, could you give a meaningful difference between the two men and the strategies they pursued?

Yeah, Dresden was pointless. It was killing for the sake of killing, and purely punitive. Shermans strategy was intended to ensure the south was unable to continue waging war. You can argue whether or not there were alternatives that would have achieved the same goal, but it would be revisionist to claim it was a purely punitive action.

I still would like to know about your thoughts about the atomic bombings on Japan during World War II in this context.

It was done because of Normandy. No one involved knew the outcome in advance, and it's not been used since. What else?

I actually don't think the bombing of Dresden was a mistake. I just don't believe we should glorify it.

Oh for god's sake, are you still on about the Agent Orange thing? That was a complete scam. There is literally no statistically significant evidence to suggest it's actually seriously hazardous to human health. You've been berating Kidicious in another thread for his views on creationism. When are you going to apply the same standard to your own beliefs?

My recollection is that Sherman's march to the sea didn't actually hit the major Southern industrial areas. At that time the South's industry was in places like New Orleans and the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia.

I would have assumed most of their industry was along the Mississippi, actually. Are you sure?

Well New Orleans is on the Mississippi. I know the Shenandoah was fairly industrial by Southern standards.
