I'm not following this at all.

Ireland is a majority Catholic island. The story described an Anglican as the Archbishop of Ireland without qualification. Ben pointed out that it is potentially misleading. You said that it was arrogant to assume that when the Archbishop of a majority Catholic island is mentioned that he would be Catholic. I don't think that's true at all. If a story mentions the Archbishop of Athens, I assume he's Orthodox. If a story mentions the Archbishop of Uppsala, I assume he's Lutheran. And if you tell me that the Archbishop of Ireland did something, I naturally assume you mean a Catholic Archbishop.

Does that make sense, or are you just biased against Catholics?

Actually his title is correct. Ben just thinks because they didn't specify he was in the Church of Ireland (part of the Anglican Communion), people will think that he's actually a Catholic Archbishop.

I hate sloppy and lazy journalism which seeks to do exactly that. Ussher is COI a fact that magically appears nowhere in the article. Archbishop and Ireland does. The assumption being that when these are combined to form "Catholic". Which, no doubt is the purpose.

He was archbishop of Armagh. There is no 'archbishop of Ireland'. He was an archbishop in Ireland, not the archbishop of Ireland.

And there were very, very few COI folks in Ireland (roughly 5 percent). Overwhelmingly Catholic.

When I first heard of him, I assumed he was a Catholic Archbishop. I soon found out that he wasn't. The Catholic Church is about ten times the size of the Anglican Communion. Why wouldn't I assume that an Archbishop is Catholic?

Because there are probably just as many Anglican archbishops in Ireland as Catholic.

Wrong. COI isn't even the second largest religion at present in Northern Ireland according to the 2001 UK census. As I said, very few people, then as now, are members of the COI.
