Ireland kind of had a big issue between the Catholics and Anglicans for a number of years. You may have heard of it.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

What does that have to do with assuming that an Irish Archbishop is Catholic?

        Speaks more to your biases.

I'm not following this at all.

Ireland is a majority Catholic island. The story described an Anglican as the Archbishop of Ireland without qualification. Ben pointed out that it is potentially misleading. You said that it was arrogant to assume that when the Archbishop of a majority Catholic island is mentioned that he would be Catholic. I don't think that's true at all. If a story mentions the Archbishop of Athens, I assume he's Orthodox. If a story mentions the Archbishop of Uppsala, I assume he's Lutheran. And if you tell me that the Archbishop of Ireland did something, I naturally assume you mean a Catholic Archbishop.

Does that make sense, or are you just biased against Catholics?

Actually his title is correct. Ben just thinks because they didn't specify he was in the Church of Ireland (part of the Anglican Communion), people will think that he's actually a Catholic Archbishop.
I hate sloppy and lazy journalism which seeks to do exactly that. Ussher is COI a fact that magically appears nowhere in the article. Archbishop and Ireland does. The assumption being that when these are combined to form "Catholic". Which, no doubt is the purpose.

He was archbishop of Armagh. There is no 'archbishop of Ireland'. He was an archbishop in Ireland, not the archbishop of Ireland.

And there were very, very few COI folks in Ireland (roughly 5 percent). Overwhelmingly Catholic.

Ireland is a divisive country - Northern Ireland is majority Anglican and the rest of Ireland is Catholic. If someone said Archbishop of Ireland, I'd see where. That would make most sense.

Because there are probably just as many Anglican archbishops in Ireland as Catholic.

So you guys say I'm not supposed to assume that the Archbishop of a majority Catholic island is Catholic? I'm sorry, but that's ****ing weird. If somebody brings up an Irish Archbishop, and makes no further clarification, I'm going to assume that they mean a Catholic. It's just natural.

Wrong. COI isn't even the second largest religion at present in Northern Ireland according to the 2001 UK census. As I said, very few people, then as now, are members of the COI.

Felch, there's no point in discussing this with them. They believe they are immune to bias.

Because you are Catholic. Anyone who knows anything about Ireland knows they have had quite an issue with sectarian violence between Catholic and Protestants for centuries.

Which is why the Prince of Orange was Anglican.

I said NI is majority Anglican (at the very least 2nd ). Do you deny it?
