Martinez or Rubio would be my pick at this point.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

Ben, shame on you for lusting after a married woman.
The sad part is that you consider that shot to be "cheesecake."

I don't see why Christie couldn't get the nomination - he's nothing like Romney, except insomuch as he's a NE republican. Very good credentials, and very good at running his state.

Martinez would be great. NM governors, though, seem to get only about halfway there then aren't able to continue; see Richardson, Bill for example (though he did have a minor scandal that cost him his chance). My mom worked for her when she was DA in Las Cruces, and liked her personally.

If the repubs run a smug male wetback they are done for.

And Romney wasn't either of these?

You know, I'm not sure what I dislike more. The fact that your presumptions are made without any thought at all or the fact that you are okay with these slurs.

Have to work with the material given.

Would you prefer shots of COD and who is most definitely not married?

Palin, IMHO, is clearly out of the picture. Yes, she has 4 years to try and rehabilitate her image and rebuild bridges, but I don't think she'll ever be politically viable again. She's far more likely to appear on DWTS.

If the GOP wants to win in '16, I would recommend Christie. Plainspoken, agrees with core principles, and can draw across-the-aisle votes. I don't think they have the stones to put Martinez at the top of the ticket, but that's an interesting possibility.

                            A) Fair or not, there is a perception that his enthusiastic praise of the President hurt the GOP chances this go round. That's hardly going to play well in a primary.
                            B) I doubt the party has the stomach for taking a bet on another NE governor unlikely to carry his own state.

The GOP cannot win with its current coalition. The GOP won the white vote by 20 points. It won the vote among married women. It won the vote even among the college-educated. That's not enough anymore. It's time to start digging into new voting groups.

Christie doesn't have Romney's baggage yet, as he hasn't been on the national scene long enough. Fairly or not, he has more of a reputation of being a very good governor; and he doesn't have the flip-flopper reputation (yet). I don't know if he would be willing to play the games and flip-flop enough for the republican base to vote for him, but I think a lot would support him. And don't discount carrying NJ - a well-loved governor can carry a state regardless of their normal politics.

I don't think there is any perception that his praise of Obama hurt in any real circles that matter. Fox News is irrelevant and that blog post was utterly shallow and meaningless as well.
