American Catholics tend to vote Democratic anyway. I think Bush was the first Republican to win a majority of their vote in 2004, but otherwise it has gone to Democratic candidates.

Interesting tidbit: Romney doesn't appear to have done any better with Mormons than Bush did in 2004, both won them 80/20.

First, Hillary isn't running. She has ruled it out forcefully, and I see no reason to not believe her. I've not seen one indication she intends the run.

One does not underestimate the ambition of Hillary Clinton.

However, I think that it's possible that should Hillary be determined to run, Biden would step aside. In fact, I could see Obama and Biden having promised to clear the field for her in 2016 in exchange for Bill's non-stop stumping this year. I don't believe that happened, though.

Which is what I mean. Biden would step aside and Obama would make sure that happened. I'm sure also that if it was a Hillary vs. Biden race that Obama's organization wouldn't go lock step behind Biden but split in half (and that may be generous for Biden).

Regardless, Biden is no Obama and in a head to head, I think Hillary would be able to wipe the floor with him.

Hillary's ego demands that she make another bid for the Presidency. Biden seems to have let his ambitions slip out on the campaign trail. And considering his political acumen, it's hard to imagine Cuomo, who is the Dem's best candidate probably, deciding not to run.

We need to handicap the future elections somehow so that the wretched, battered Republican party can have at least SOME chance in winning.

I don't agree that social conservatism is going by the wayside. It's a wedge issue, but it's not like support for abortion and so forth is inexorably increasing. In fact, if anything it is decreasing. I know a lot of young people who are very, very socially conservative. I am more socially conservative than my parents.

Social issues are firmly held beliefs on either side of the spectrum. It's clear that social conservatism did not turn off independents in this election.

The population as a whole is aging. And it's not just old white voters, it's white voters in general. As dems do worse with white people, Republicans stand to gain in places where there are lots of white people. Like the midwest. Pursuing the largest demographic group is not a losing strategy.

You're assuming white people is some monolithic group. The suggestion is somewhat suspect as I suspect a large number of said persons with lack of colour voted for one Obama, Barak.

Clinton is stepping down as SoS next year, she'd already said so.

It wouldn't matter. If the economy is doing well and Obama is viewed well, Biden would win.
