The best way for the Republican party to rehabilitate itself is to sever itself from its dysfunctional relationship with the religious-right nutters. But that won't happen.
That's not going to make a difference. This election was about the economy and the Republicans still managed to lose. While Romney wasn't the strongest candidate ever, he also wasn't weak either. That means that there was an insurmountable reason for the loss. Demographic changes, increases in dependency, and changes in attitude towards dependency are the reason for the loss, and 4 years from now it will be even worse.

      Sure, it's insurmountable.

They have to reach out to non-whites and women. However, this will be difficult without greatly pissing off their white supporters. I couldn't spot a single minority in Romney's campaign headquarters. Not even an Oriental.

Romney lost half the states he has homes in.

You say this as if you have to be racist if you are a white Republican. I expect this though from a guy who has spent his rather useless life in academia.

Have you ever actually wondered why the Republicans don't win the black and latino vote?

No, it's just their interests don't intersect enough. What I'm seeing here is that you don't know what you are talking about and seem to be suffering from an acute case of roid-rage.

I wrote this in the other thread. I think the republicans lost because of economic issues, not because of their social conservatism.
I think they have to become something like the European Christian Democracy parties, for example, the parties of Merkel, Adenauer and many other prime ministers and presidents around the world, not something particularly extreme.

Basically, no poor person was going to vote for them, and many of those who voted for them only did it because Romney is not Obama, and fearing many other things, like a new war in the middle east.

Actually, the GOP gets lots of votes from the poor-to-lower-middle-class, largely due to wedge-issue voting, e.g. abortion.

                          I concur.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

I would suggest that the GOP's votes from the poor and middle class are primarily due to its stance on social issues (abortion, gay rights, perceived support for Christianity, etc.), and not due to economic issues or racism. I don't doubt that racism exists and is a factor for some, but I think most of those that are racist are also deciding on these social issues.

Barnabas, there really are a lot of people, even in the poor or middle class, who don't believe in large government or welfare. Most Americans don't want money from the government, shockingly to some people...

I THINK THAT THE REASON WHY THE GOP LOST WAS BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T CONSERVATIVE ENOUGH, YOU KNOW? THEY NEED TO GET BACK TO THEIR ROOTS.
