  • Is the Republican party done?

I don't think you can have a weaker incumbent than this. If you can't win in this situation, how could they ever possibly win when the economy is just doing normal? If you look at demographic changes and the explosion of people on welfare and government dependency, I see no way that Republicans can possibly win in the future. In order to compete they are going to have to try and outsell Democrats on who can give more handouts, at which point there is no point of the Republican party. Trends in attitudes towards entitlements are only going to get worse. Even if you tax the rich at 100% it won't put a dent in the deficit which means taxes are going to raise for the middle class. As taxes go up and people get taxed more, more people will fall down further and become dependent whether they want to or not. I think this win has pretty much sealed the deal for 50 years at least of Democract domination. Thoughts?

He has no chance. He shouldn't even bother running.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

The Republicans can win again if they abandon their tea party '**** the poor' approach and embrace sensible conservatism. America is still a far, far more conservative country than any of the other western democracies, and its about time the GOP grew up and started modernizing. Campaign on fiscally responsible universal healthcare, tight budgets, controlled defense spending and responsible foreign policy, and the Dems would be in deep trouble. Oh and stop demonizing immigrants and pull in a decent chunk of the latino and black votes. The GOP have become a caricature and it should be better than that.

You are dumber than a doornail. You must be British or something.

Obviously. I had to sit and watch UK Conservatives lose THREE back to back elections until they realized that the world has moved on, and to win they had to modernize, not just hope that the country turned back time.

You asked if the GOP is dead? Well if you think modernizing is dumb, then yes it's dead. The demographics tell you everything you should need to know.

Your idea of modernizing is moving towards socialism. Last time I checked, nobody wants to become like Europe. Europe is one of the most insignificant places on the planet these days. If we should do anything, it's stop with this silly NATO farce and stop subsidizing the defense of inferior Europeans.

Maybe the GOP should go have a summit with the UK's Conservative Party and find out how they did it.

The nicest thing to happen would be if the two parties would get together and fix the patchwork "Healthcare Reform" into something workable.

More likely the Tea Party wing of the GOP will show up for work wearing the legislative equivalent of explosive vests as they come to take the US Government hostage.

The Tea Party idiots will be dumped like a Thai Shemale hooker and for the same reason.

I'd rather the Republicans continue losing elections than simply running around promising everyone money and hand outs to compete. It's simple numbers. At some point it will all come crashing down. We already have more debt per person than Greece does. If Obama continues for another 4 years as he has for the past 4 years, the crash will either occur on his watch or shortly after. My hope is that when the **** hits the fan, there will be enough people still actually working that they'll rise up and tip the scale back. Either way, I think there is going to be a flight of wealth from this country as the tax hikes start kicking in and the economy goes into another recession Q1 2013.

I, for one, welcome our new socialist overlords.

The best way for the Republican party to rehabilitate itself is to sever itself from its dysfunctional relationship with the religious-right nutters. But that won't happen.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

That's because you don't have a job and you have no skills. You aren't going to have any in the future either so you are a model Democratic supporter. Did you get your Obama phone yet? Maybe if you all collectively beg hard enough the Obama Car and Obama House will come next.
