What is there to not understand? You cant hunt deer with an Mini-14/AR-15/M16/etc. The round is only .22 caliber. Unless you hit the deer perfectly, you just wound it and it dies a slow death.

He doesn't understand why it's inhumane to use that type of gun/ammo on deer, but it's okay to use the same thing on other humans.

Okay only use 7.56 rounds on humans, then! AK47's legal and AR-15's illegal!

The reason it's illegal to use a .22 on deer is because the round is SMALL and LESS deadly. You wind up with wounded deer dying a slow death.

Now if you have a crazed gunman shooting at you... I'd think you'd rather take your chances with a .22 than a larger caliber round.

A round from a large caliber hunting rifle is worse than the mini-14's or AR-15's .223 round

Unless the laws have changed in PA, hunting with a 22 was acceptable. Not smart mind you but legal none the less. As for a .223, perfectly good deer rifle, a good flat shooting gun that you can use for distance shots. (not as good as say a .243 or .270 but a good long distance flat shooting gun.)

You're right. There's no round size. This contrasts with VA law that does specify prohibited rounds.

However, I do see that PA law prohibits semiautomatic weapons for use on game so mini-14's would be a no-go regardless in PA.

I think that was the case back when I grew up as well. Although for some reason I seem to recall semiauto shot guns were allowed for small game. Pheasant, quail, rabbits. etc... regardless you were just as fast with a pump shotgun as a semi auto.

In New Jersey semiauto shotguns were allowed for deer hunting. My father owns a 10 gauge magnum semiauto that hasn't been out of the gun closet for at least thirty years. NJ-legal three round magazine.

I can't recall for deer if semiautos were allowed but I knew of a number of hunters that used shotguns with slugs for deer hunting. If you are in the woods and don't need long range accuracy due to brush/visibility why not?

All I had was 12 g double barrel shot guns growing up, so ammo of 2 rounds vs a clip with 5 shells was a consideration.

btw 10 guage semiauto, sweet... kicks like a mule I bet.

The joke was he never had more than one shell in the magazine anyway because he could never recover quickly enough for a second shot.
